from press release
The Asheville Tourists blanked the Savannah Sand Gnats 5-0 Saturday night at Historic Grayson Stadium. The Gnats (1-2/43-30) were shut out for the second time in three games in the second half.
Asheville (2-1/31-41) took control of the game with a five-run top of the sixth inning. The big blow was a three-run home run off the bat of DH Jared Clark, his team-leading tenth. Four of the five runs scored against RHP Collin McHugh, who lost his fifth start in a row, were unearned.
The Gnats had runners on base in seven of the game’s nine innings, but couldn’t string more than two together in any inning.
Pedro Zapata’s nine-game hitting streak came to an end with an 0-4.
For the second night in a row, the Gnats bullpen threw three scoreless innings.
The Gnats send LHP Darin Gorski (2-2, 2.94) to the hill on Sunday at 6:05 pm to take on Asheville’s RHP Nick Schnaitmann (5-5, 5.94). The pre-game show on News/Talk 630 begins at 5:50 pm.
