LAST GAME: The B-Mets completed a sweep of the Akron
Aeros with an 8-5 win Sunday afternoon at Canal Park. It was
Binghamton’s second sweep of the Aeros in their home park
this season. D.J. Wabick pitted the B-Mets an early 2-0 lead in
the first with a bases-clearing triple. Binghamton added single
runs in the next three innings, two of which came courtesy of
solo homers from Sean Ratliff and Brahiam Maldonado. Jenrry
Mejia lasted one-plus innings before exiting due to injury.
Chris Schwinden took over and established order, tossing five
innings of two-run work to pick up his third win. Raul Reyes
ripped a pair of hits and scored twice and Luis Hernandez
managed a two-hit day out of the leadoff spot with an RBI.
Jerad Head paced Akron with a two hits, including a two-run
homer in the eighth that moved Akron within three. Manual
Alvarez allowed the first two to reach in the ninth before retiring
the next three to nail down his fourth save.
STARTING PITCHING MATCHUP: RHP Josh Stinson will make
his sixth start of the year tonight. He worked five innings and
allowed three runs, one earned, in his last outing, June 22
versus New Britain, for a no-decision. Stinson is 4-1 with a
2.59 ERA over 66 innings. His ERA ranks fifth in the Eastern
League and opponents hit just .206 against him, second-best
in the circuit. In 2009, Stinson split the season between Savannah
(Low-A) and St. Lucie (High-A) and went 5-3 with eight
saves and a 2.86 ERA in 78.2 innings combined. The Mets
took him in the 37th round of the June 2006 draft.
RHP Bryan Morris is due for his eighth turn in Altoona’s rotation
tonight. In his last start, he worked 6.2 innings, allowing
just a run on six hits in a win over Portland June 23. With the
Curve, Morris is 4-2 with a 3.72 ERA over 38.2 innings. The
righty opened the season with Bradenton (High-A) where he
went 3-0 with a 0.60 ERA over eight starts (44.2 IP). Morris
failed to allow an earned run in his final 30 innings with the
Marauders. He spent the 2009 season with Lynchburg (High-
A) and struggled with a 4-9 mark and a 5.57 ERA over 15
starts (72.2 IP). The Pirates acquired Morris in a trade
7/31/08 from Los Angeles (NL) in the deal that sent Jason
Bay to Boston and Manny Ramirez to the Dodgers.
WABICK RETURNS: After sitting out a week due to a minor
oblique tweak, D.J. Wabick returned to the B-Mets lineup and
managed a 2-5 showing including a triple and two RBI at Akron
Sunday. He stroking the ball in June with a .304 (17-56)
average and 9 RBI.
ON A TEAR: The B-Mets have won four consecutive series and
nine of 12 games overall entering play tonight. They are having
their best month to date with a 15-10 record.
