Update - 9th Rd RHP - Jacob deGrom

The quick turnaround from draft day to signing day has come for several players with local ties who were selected in Major League Baseball's first-year amateur draft that concluded Wednesday.

The big financial winner was ninth-round pick Jacob deGrom out of Stetson. Converted from shortstop to pitcher for his junior season, deGrom said he signed Saturday with the New York Mets for $95,000.

"It's still kind of sinking in," said the 6-foot-4 right-hander from DeLeon Springs. "It feels like it's almost not even true. It feels weird, but it's cool. I'm sure it's going to sink in over the next few days."

The Mets are going to assign deGrom to Kingsport (Tenn.) in the rookie Appalachian League. If he does well there he could get promoted in August to the New York-Penn League's Brooklyn Cyclones.
