The Bisons dropped their second consecutive game to the Charlotte Knights by losing 3-2 at Knights Stadium tonight.
After Bisons pitcher Raul Valdes took the mound for the start in place of Dylan Owen, he pitched a fantastic four innings. Valdes, who made two appearances for the Bisons early in the season has spent the majority of this year with the Mets but was recalled to Buffalo this past week when catcher Josh Thole was called up.
Valdes made the most of his start by going a strong four innings. Valdes gave up only four hits while giving up one run due to a solo home run from Knights left fielder Stefan Gartrell in the second inning. Besides Gartrell's 12th homer of the season, Valdes was in control for the majority of his outing. The left hander commanded the strike zone with ease by striking out seven Knights. Valdes threw 60 pitches and had 43 of them count for strikes.
The Bisons finally got on the board in the fifth inning when third baseman Mike Cervenak took a 1-0 ball to deep left field to tie the game at one apiece. The Herd would then take the lead later in the inning when left fielder Lucas Duda was able to score thanks to a sacrifice fly from second baseman Justin Turner.
Buffalo had an opportunity to put another run on the board but was denied by a play at the plate. Catcher J.R House tried to score off of a double from second baseman Russ Adams but he was thrown out at home. Gartrel got House out at the plate to get out of the inning and deny the Bisons their third run of the frame.
The Bisons record now stands at an even 38-38. The Herd are at a .500 mark for the first time since they were 3-3 back early April. The Knights improved their record to 38-39.
