Bobby V, Pagan Update, Jerry Manuel, Mike Pelfrey... and Johan Santana

Bobby V.

Former Texas Rangers and New York Mets manager Bobby Valentine, now an analyst with ESPN, has withdrawn his name from consideration for the managerial job with the Baltimore Orioles, Valentine confirmed Wednesday. Valentine likely will become the top candidate for the Marlins' managerial job, which opened Wednesday with the firing of Fredi Gonzalez. "I am honored and flattered that the Orioles reached out with this potential opportunity, but at this time in my career, I feel I should direct my energies in another direction," Valentine said. - link

Pagan Update:

New York Mets center fielder Angel Pagan was forced to leave Wednesday night's game in the seventh inning. After the game, Mets manager Jerry Manuel said Pagan had muscle spasms in his right side. Manuel said he is "optimistic" it is not a long-term problem. "I'm sure it is a one day thing," said Manuel, who expects to give Pagan Thursday off. Pagan agreed with his manager's assessment and said he doesn't think it will take a long time to heal. "It's going to be a day-to-day thing and see what happens," Pagan said after the Mets' 5-0 victory over the Tigers. "It's nothing bad." - link

Jerry Manuel:

Best decisions of the past year - 12. The Mets' decision to retain Jerry Manuel after an abysmal 2009 season - Manuel was put on warning, but Mets ownership never seemed close to firing him, even after the team started poorly in 2010. To Manuel's credit, a more confident, positive feeling in the clubhouse has aided the team's rather stark turnaround to the top of the wild card standings. Manuel has a very thick skin (a necessity in New York) and a knack for developing a positive feeling, even when things appear down. He has an option for about $1.5 million for 2010, but a multiyear extension is in order. - link

Mike Pelfrey:

30 Players Who Should Be at the All-Star Game - Mike Pelfrey - If you told me Pelfrey would be 9-2 with a 2.69 ERA at this point in the season, I probably would have called you crazy. Not many people expected this, but it has been a pleasant surprise for the second-place Mets.- link

Johan Santana:

TMZ has learned New York Mets star pitcher Johan Santana was accused in a police report of sexual battery that allegedly went down on a Florida golf course ... but the case went nowhere. TMZ obtained a copy of the report filed with the Lee County Sheriff's Office on October 28, 2009 -- one day after the alleged attack in Fort Myers. In the document, the accuser (referred to only as Jane Doe) claims she and Santana were walking on the golf course when he "began to kiss her and pull up her top, unclasping her bra." The report continues: "Johan began to pull at [the accuser's] skirt/skort and attempt [sic] to place his hands into her underwear." According to the document the alleged victim "told Johan no multiple times but Johan persisted." The report gets more graphic, when the accuser claims Santana penetrated her, grabbed and bruised her calf, and "ejaculated on her upper thigh."The accuser claims she "cleaned her thigh with her underwear" -- and then returned to a tennis court with Santana, and actually watched him play tennis with someone else. - link

(-that makes sense… you never play tennis with the person you just ejaculated on…)
