Hudson Valley 5, Brooklyn 2
Fuller, Renegades stop Cyclones, 5-2
A rough seventh inning cost starter Yohan Almonte and the Brooklyn Cyclones a win Wednesday night at Hudson Valley, as the Renegades managed a 5-2 victory.
Leading 2-1 heading into the seventh, Almonte hit the leadoff man, Burt Reynolds, and Nick Schwaner drove him in with a double. Later in the inning, third baseman Jet Butler misplayed a bunt, which helped the Renegades extend the inning and set up a two-RBI single by Mayobanex Acosta, which was followed by a RBI single from Hudson Valley centerfielder Chris Winder. When the smoke cleared, the Cyclones trailed, 5-2—a deficit they would not overcome.
Almonte went 6.2 innings in total, giving up five runs (four earned) on five hits and two walks. Brian Needham and Jonathan Kountis (pictured) combined to pitch a clean 1.1 innings in relief.
The Brooklyn bats were quieted by Hudson Valley starter Devin Fuller, who only allowed three hits in six innings. Will Cherry’s double in the sixth inning plated two runs, which accounted for all of the Cyclones’ scoring on the night. Cory Vaughn and Rylan Sandoval were the only other Cyclones to get hits.
The Cyclones fall to 5-2 on the season. They are set to welcome the Renegades to MCU Park tomorrow night for a 7 p.m. first pitch.
