CUTNPASTE: - Sandy, Jim Duquette, Manny Acosta, Days on DL... and Bobby’s Not Quitting?

SD Padres
Sandy:

http://baseballmusings.com/  - I’ve yet to read an article that professes the idea that Sandy Alderson would be a bad choice for the Mets. Via www.MetsBlog.com , Billy Beane weighs in on his old boss: “There’s no question he would change the image there,” Beane said by phone yesterday. “Right away, there would be direction and vision. That seems to be what people are calling out for.” We know from his time with the Athletics that Alderson is really good at the job. With more money in New York, I suspect he’ll be really good with the Mets.

NY Mets
Jim Duquette:

BTB  - Ya have to feel sorry for this guy. Fate cut him a little slack by bringing in Art Howe to manage and getting the era named after him (i.e. the Art Howe years). Howe only bought Jim a little time, for Jim was determined to put his ineptitude on display for all to ridicule. Somehow, pitching coach Rick Petersen got into the right ears and polluted his/Jim's, and Jeff Wilpon's judgement. It cost us Scott Kazmir, because Petersen thought he'd be able to get more out of Victor Zambrano. Really? Between Art Howe, Duquette trading Kazmir, poor play on the field and no indication things were going to get better in the era of Wilpon's sole ownership, Met fans were stewing.

Atlanta Braves
 Manny Acosta:

bleacherreport.  - Grade: B - Stats: (3-2, 1 SV, 2.95, 1.21) - After he was claimed of waivers from the Atlanta Braves, Acosta was another surprise to come out of the Mets bullpen. He was able to strikeout hitters with regularity this season posting a career high strikeout rate of 9.5 K/9.

Days on DL:

fangraphs  - I have finally gone through the MLB transaction data and have compiled a spreadsheet of the all of the trips to and from the disabled list for the 2010 season. Feel free to download the data and use it as you see fit. If you use the data in your own article/research there is no need to reference my work since the data can be obtained freely. I am just wanting to make it available for people to use. If you do plan on using it, here is an explanation and limitation of the data.

Bobby’s Not Quitting?

BTF  - OK, I’m repeating myself, but something I wrote earlier deserves a written replay, especially after the emotional mess that was Bobby Cox Monday night in a back room of Turner Field. He doesn’t want to quit. So he won’t. That’s because Cox isn’t sprinting into retirement for good on his wobbly legs after managing in the major leagues for nearly three decades, no matter how much he keeps saying he will. ...Now it came to this for Cox, and this was it. Well, Cox keeps saying as much. “Bobby always has been pretty sure about what he’s going to say, and he’s always been matter of fact,” Jones said, recalling his thoughts as Cox stood before his team for the last time. “But you know (tonight), he couldn’t get it out. It’s still hard to believe now that it’s over ...” It’s not over for Cox, though
