It's Only a Press Conference, But it Sure Sounded Great!!

Obviously a single press conference is no way to judge anyone, lest of all not a new General Manager who hasn't begun to put his imprint onto an organization. However, some of new Mets' GM Sandy Alderson's quotes were very exciting to hear, including the following:

"I'm focused on 2011 and not things that are historical in nature."

"Offense sells..."

"This was a unique opportunity..."

"A manager needs to reflect the philosophy of the organization..."

"A fiery manager is desirable..."

"Our farm system is middle-of-the-pack and and we never want to be middle-of-the-pack."

and

"The baseball calendar waits for no one."

Alderson's funniest line was also his first:

"Today's gathering represents about 17 years of press coverage in Oakland."

LOVE IT!! Sandy was engaging, confident, funny and extremely well-spoken...a nice start, at any rate, to his tenure. The next year+ is going to be exciting, for sure!!
