Mack Ade

When Sandy Alderson mentioned he may add one or two final candidates to the managerial interview mix, he apparently was not speaking about Tim Teufel. Multiple sources familiar with the process do not believe the former Mets infielder would be interviewed for the managerial position, even though he is thought of highly.

Teufel, 52, managed Double-A Binghamton this past season after spending the previous two seasons at the helm of Class A St. Lucie. - ESPN

 Jose Reyes:

Via Hardball Talk, Matt Pignataro reports the Mets may trade Jose Reyes. This make sense. Reyes represents both risk and opportunity. Both come from his recent injury history. He missed most of 2009, and while he played quite a bit in 2010, his batting stats were not up to his peak standards. At 28 years old, a full recovery turns him back into an excellent shortstop, but that’s still a question mark.

So if the Mets can find a team that believes Reyes will fully recover in 2011, the Mets might be able to bring in more talent for the team. If New York allowed Jose to start the season and show he is back, the team might get more in return, but then they risk him not playing well and getting nothing. - musings

Kevin Tapani:

Trade: Sent to Minnesota in Frank Viola deal

After trade: 143 Wins, 101 ERA+, 1,480 Ks

Analysis – Win for Twins. Viola finished third in the Cy Young Award race in 1990, but the Mets did not make the playoffs in his tenure with the club, which was just 2+ seasons. And the Mets also traded Rick Aguilera in this deal. - 360mets

Mike Hessman:

2011 Projection

Hessman has already refused a minor league assignment and is therefore a free agent — so it’s unlikely he’ll return to the Mets organization.

Hessman turns 33 next March, and has run out of opportunities. He might catch on with Buffalo or another AAA team next year, but his chances of making the Mets – or any big league club, are slim. Still, I’ll be secretly hoping he gets a shot somewhere, gets into a hot streak, and truly enjoys at least a few weeks succeeding as a big leaguer. Chris Shelton, Kevin Maas, and Shane Spencer all enjoyed their ten minutes of fame – so why not Mike Hessman -

Steve Renko

Trade: Sent to Montreal in Donn Clendenon deal

After trade: 134 Wins, 98 ERA+, 1,455 Ks

Analysis – Win for Mets. While Renko threw five one-hitters and had a very good season in 1973, he was essentially a league-average pitcher. Clendenon played a vital role in the 1969 World Series team. - link
