Not to mention his customary awful K/BB ratio. However, he'd go on to bat .249/.368/.431 in the second half, showing off the power that pretty much starts and ends the discussion of his value proposition. His plate discipline is still a pretty big concern but if he can continue to translate his big raw power into longballs he's at least got a chance.
5.One of Jon Niese and Dillon Gee must step up and give the Mets quality innings and keep them in the game. All that Pelfrey has proven is that he is an innings eater and not a quality innings eater at that. If Niese or Gee can develop into a solid number two type – more likely for Niese than for Gee – the Mets could end playing meaningful games into September, assuming Alderson don’t take their top producers and shuffle them off prospects again. http://metsmerizedonline.com/2011/12/what-to-expect-from-the-mets-in-2012.html?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=twitter&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+MetsMerizedOnline-GetMetsmerized-NewYorkMets+%28Mets+Merized+Online%29
The Mets have asked R.A. Dickey not to make his charity climb of Mount Kilimanjaro. However, Dickey still plans on going, according to the Wall Street Journal. Though trips up Kilimanjaro are apparently not fatal or even that dangerous, the Mets have sent Dickey a letter saying they can void his contract if anything bad happens. "If we thought it was a good idea, we wouldn't have sent the letter," Mets general manager Sandy Alderson told the Journal. "Beyond that, have we tried to dissuade him from going? It seems to me that the letter is enough of an effort to dissuade him, and he intends to go on nonetheless."

New York Mets pitcher Pedro Beato brought spring training early to an eager group of aspiring ballplayers Tuesday afternoon at the Five Tool Baseball Academy & G2 Training Center in Ozone Park, N.Y. The Xaverian High School graduate instructed the players on the finer points of pitching, sharing a bit of what he has learned after completing his first year in the big leagues. “I think it’s great not only for the kids, but for myself knowing that I can teach them some stuff that I've learned that they probably haven't heard before,” said Beato, who lived in nearby South Ozone Park during high school. “[To be able to] give them some advice from someone ... who has been in their shoes ... it's a big push to keep them in a sport and keep them out of the streets.”    http://www.examiner.com/baseball-history-in-new-york/pedro-beato-reflects-on-his-mets-rookie-season-at-baseball-clinic
