Yes, I’m asking for the Mets to possibly re-visit this train wreck. I understand he has signed to play somewhere in Japan but I’m sure the Mets could trade them somebody to get Lasto out of that deal. If the Mets are going to spend the off-season signing reclamation projects (like the next one listed) why not give one of their ex-top prospects a shot. The stats in Venezuela are pretty impressive, but let’s remember these people can’t even pull off a decent kidnapping. I never was a fan of this guy’s demeanor, but I can’t think of a better utility 5th outfielder available this off-season.
Vinnie Rottino – OF - Tigres de Aragua - VWL

Frankly, I just don’t know enough about this guy. He was originally signed as an undrafted free agent in 2003 by the Brewers nd clawed himself into the majors less than four years later (.214). He was next traded to the Dodgers, released, and the Mets signed him in November. He can play RF. LF, 1B, 3B, and C.
Jesus Flores – C - Navegantes del Magallanes - VWL
53-G, 205-AB, .337/.376/.527/.902, 8-HR, 37-RBI, 38-K, 9-BB
Flores was the catcher that Omar Minaya let the Washington Nationals steal in a Rule 5 draft. Minaya expected Jose’s broken hand to prevent him from being chosen, but Nats manager Manny Acta had history with Flores when they were both in the Mets system. Jesus has since lost his starting job to Wilson Ramos, and, like Milledge, should be revisited by the Mets as a right-handed platoon guy with Josh Thole. The Nats and Mets have always been trade friendly, so I’m sure something could be worked out here.
Josh Satin – OF/2B - Leones del Caracas – VWL
14-G, 41-AB, .146/.407/.293/.699, 2-HR, 3-RBI, 16-K, 17-BB
You will have to look far and wide to find a player with a .146 batting average and a .407 on base percentage. Satin was sent here to learn the outfield. He’s hit anywhere he’s played, so it was a little strange to see he couldn’t get the bat off his shoulders. No, he really couldn’t get the bat off his shoulders. 17 walks in 58 total at bats. Turned out that they played him more at second base, his manager got fired, people started getting kidnapped, and Josh bought a one-way back to the States,
Dylan Owen – SP - Leones del Caracas – VWL
9-G, 7-ST, 2-3, 1.73, 1.03 41.2-IP, 39-K, 10-BB
I have no idea why Owen pitched winter ball earlier this off-season. It’s not like he needed the innings. I assume it was his intension to pitch well and then be picked in the Rule 5 draft earlier this month. Well, he got the first part of the plan accomplished, but will return to the Mets for his sixth season. Don’t be surprised he doesn’t turn out to be the 2012 version of the 2011 Dillon Gee.
