C Francisco Pena – Aguilas Cibaenas – DWL
26-G, 59-AB, .305/.359/.390/.749. 9-K, 5-BB1-HR, 6-RBI
We’ve spoke often abut Frankie. He arrived as a 16-year old in 2007 and next season will be his sixth year as a Met. This was supposed to be the season he took over as the starting catcher in Queens.
It’s hard to get excited about anything that goes on in these off-season leagues. At least half of the players aren’t good enough to be on any of the rosters of major league teams, be them the parent team or any of the affiliates.
The one thing that did stand out to me was only 9-K in 59AB.
It’s hard to figure out what his destination or role will be in 2012.
1B Valentino Pascucci - Leones del Escogido – DWL
17-G, 63-AB, .222/.355/.254/.609, 0-HR, 6-RBI, 27-K
When was the last time that Pascucci hadn’t hit a home run in 63 at-bats? Let me reword that. When was the first time?
Like Pena, the K/AB ratio sticks out here; however, this time it doesn’t have positive results.
I assume that he was invited back to Buffalo because he’s a crowd favorite. I expect Alan Dykstra to be the starting first baseman, and the outfield is already crowded. Pascucci will most probably DH all season.

First, the good news... F-Mart is healthy once again.
Well, that last statement might be a stretch. Let’s just say everything is fine except for his arthritic legs that have robbed him of his tools.
He left winter ball early and this could be the last time he represents the Mets.
How sad.
RP Armondo Rodriguez – Leones del Escogido – DWL

It looks like A-Rod is beginning the process of converting to a relief pitcher, possibly a closer.

The stats look good, especially the K/IP ratio.
OF Pedro Zapata - Tigres del Licey – DWL
34-G, 107-AB, .262/.295/.318/.612, 0-HR, 10-RBI, 24-K, 5-BB
Nothing spectacular here, other than the fact he strikes out once every fourth at-bat. Remember, the pitching basically sucks in this league, so prospects are supposed to be able to make contact here.
Zapata will play Buffalo in the spring.
