LAST GAME: The B-Mets scored nine runs over the final five innings and matched a season-high with fourteen hits, but fell just short in a 10-9 loss to Portland Friday night. Cory Mazzoni fell behind immediately in the first, as Michael Almanzar hit an inside-the-park grand slam. Trailing 5-0 in the fifth, the B-Met offense came alive. Allan Dykstra and Cory Vaughn smacked RBI doubles to cut the deficit to 5-2. Trailing 8-3 in the bottom of the seventh, Cesar Puello led off with a solo home run off the scoreboard in right field. Later in the inning, Blake Forsythe hit a two-run home run to left field to make it an 8-6 game. Wilfredo Tovar continued the comeback effort with an RBI double down the right field line to bring the B-Mets within one. With runners at the corners in the bottom of the eighth, Darrell Ceciliani reached on an infield hit that scored Josh Rodriguez to tie the game. Unfortunately, Portland plated two runs in the ninth against Jeff Walters and the B-Mets stranded the tying run on second base when Puello flied out to end the game.

BINGHAMTON STARTING PITCHER: RHP Logan Verrett makes his 10th start of the season for the B-Mets, and his second against the Sea Dogs. On 4/16, he earned the win over Portland after allowing two earned runs in 6.2 innings. In his last start on the mound, Verrett gave up three runs over six innings against NBR. He struck out a season-high 10 batters and did not walk any. Logan is tied for the league lead with six wins, and has the fourth lowest WHIP (1.04) in the league. Opponents are batting .224 against Verrett in his first career Double-A season.

PORTLAND STARTING PITCHER: LHP Drake Britton is pitching in his 10th game of the season for Portland, and his ninth as a starter. In two previous starts against the B-Mets, he is 0-2 and has allowed nine runs over 10.2 innings. His last outing was against Binghamton, and he allowed a season-high five earned runs in 5.2 innings. Opponents are hitting .283 against the southpaw in 2013. He has allowed eight runs in the first inning of his starts, which is the most of any inning.

MARATHON MEETING: Friday night’s 10-9 loss to Portland lasted 3:57. That was the third longest nine-inning game for the B-Mets in franchise history, and the longest since 4/27/04 v TRN. That game lasted 4:02On Thursday, the B-Mets played their quickest game of 2013, a 2:07 affair @ New Britain.

LEFT ON BASE: The B-Mets stranded 12 men on base, including the tying run in the ninth inning in Friday’s loss. In the last four games, Binghamton has left 45 men on base. That is the most LOB over a four-game stretch in the past six seasons. They are 1-3 in those games, and Binghamton has hit .250 (12-for-48) with RISP.

AVOIDING THREE-GAME SKID: The B-Mets will try to avoid their second three-game losing skid of the season Saturday night. They lost three in a row from May 1-3 against ERI and HAR.

PUELLO IN MAY: After hitting .280 in April, Cesar Puello is hitting .311 in 23 games in May. Puello has hit all seven of his home runs this month, and has tallied 20 of his 28 RBI.

ALLOWING A 5-HIT GAME: Portland’s Nick Natoli went 5-for-5 Friday night in his first game of the season with Portland. Natoli is the first player to tally five hits against the B-Mets since Will Middlebrooks went 5-for-5 against Binghamton on 6/9/11.

RODRIGUEZ ON FIRE: Josh Rodriguez is currently on a season-high ten-game hitting streak. During the streak, he is hitting .500 (17-for-34).Friday night he went 3-for-5, which was the third time in the last four games he has had a three-hit game.


NEXT GAME PREVIEW: The B-Mets continue their four-game series against the Portland Sea Dogs Sunday evening. First pitch is scheduled for6:35 PM, and RHP Rafael Montero will match up against RHP Charlie Haeger on the mound.
