12-9-13 – Pine Tar Press
- 10- RHP Luis Ortiz Sanger HS (Fresno State Commit) 9/22/95- Like a lot of
HS arms Ortiz oozes with potential. Right now, he is pretty darn good and he
could quickly emerge as a top 5 pick before the June draft. He has powerful
legs and I could easily see the 6’2 righty as a 97-98 guy as he reaches his
prime. He also possesses a solid slide piece and will show a curve and change.

1-1-14 - A big reason for the Cardinals’ success was the
dominance of their closer, the big right-hander Nick Burdi. After a freshman year where he appeared in 13 games
with mixed results, Burdi stepped up his game in a big way in 2013. In 29
appearances, he saved 16 games, and posted a 0.76 ERA with 62 strikeouts and 13
walks in 35.2 innings. Opponents managed a dismal .192/.223/.295 line against
Burdi. Louisville Slugger recently named him a Preseason All-American. Burdi
looks like a strong bet to go off the board on the first day of the 2014 MLB
Draft. His fastball is one of the best among amateur pitchers. It regularly
sits in the 95-98 range, and will reach triple digits. Righthanders in
particular have trouble with his low three-quarters arm slot, and the pitch
both misses bats and induces groundballs. Though he doesn’t walk many, he
relies more on velocity than command. He also throws a hard slider at 88-91.
It’s less of a pitch that he can throw for strikes than an out pitch to put
away hitters cheating on his elite fastball. http://collegebaseballcentral.com/nick-burdi-louisville-look-repeat-2013-success/1337/

(FL) - At 6’-5” and 190 pounds, the southpaw has a lot of projection and
already has a great feel for pitching. His fastball can touch 92 mph and he
adds a mid-70s change-up with nice fade. He has a loose and lanky frame, which
bodes well for added velocity and mechanics. His size alone makes him an
intriguing prospect. Committed to Mississippi. http://throughthefencebaseball.com/2014-mlb-draft-top-50/40532#zz88YJZTOG8iEa1Z.99
