MM's Top 25- #21 OF Travis Taijeron

#21 OF Travis Taijeron (LR: NR)
Bats: R Throws: R
Height: 6' 2" Weight: 200 lb
Age: 25
Acquired: 2011 Rule 4 Amateur Draft, 18th round, California Polytechnic State University

2013: (A+/AA) .271/.356/.531, 23 HR, 69 RBI, 47 BB, 131 K
2012: (A/A+) .255/.362/.477, 19 HR, 65 RBI, 6 SB (86%), 55 BB, 122 K
2011: (SS-A) .299/.387/.557, 9 HR, 44 RBI, 0 SB, 22 BB, 64 K

This 2011 Mets draft seems to be a lot stronger in the later rounds than the first few. Taijeron is another unlikely guy who basically forced his way onto this Top Prospect listing by hitting the living crap out of the baseball. Always known for his power (including a ridiculous .774 SLG in his college senior year), Taijeron has the plus plus power potential that can make any fan salivate over whether or not he has the tools to get to the major leagues and be that elusive #4 hitter that the Mets have been missing since Delgado left.

Taijeron is not without his faults however. Upon his promotion to AA Binghamton his batting average fell to far more pedestrian .246 and his K rate ballooned to 29.5%. Defensively, he is a strong defender in the corners but no longer has the speed/range to roam in CF on a daily basis. When coupled with roughly a league average arm, Taijeron seems like a sure bet to settle in as a LF if he can get to the majors.

Anticipated Assignment: (AA) Binghamton starting RF
Ceiling: 20+ HR hitting Second Tier Division LF starter
Floor: Right handed power bat off the bench.
