David Wright and Travis d’Arnaud provided the RBI singles,
Jenrry Mejia went 6 2/3 scoreless innings as the Mets start a 4 game series
with the Cardinals at Citi Field Monday night with a 2-0 win. Wrights broken bat single brought home Eric
Young in the bottom of the first, d’Arnauds came in the bottom of the sixth and
brought home Daniel Murphy. Mejia gets the
win. He improves to 3-0 and lowers his
season ERA to 1.99, going 6 2/3 allowing 4 hits he walked 3 and struck out 7.
Scott Rice got the last out of the 7th and the 1st out of
the 8th. Carlos Torres came on and finished the 8th allowing a double to Allen Craig and then striking out Matt Holliday and Matt Adams to slam the door.
Kyle Farnsworth picked up his 1st save as a Met in the 9th.
In-between the Mets flashed the leather all night long highlighted by 2
sterling plays by Ruben Tejada at short.
With his 1st inning single David Wright extended his hitting
streak to 12 straight games. d’Arnaud is heating up. With his 2 hits on the night his average is creeping up. It now stands at .192 on the season. The Mets now stand at 10-9 on the year and are 4-6 now at Citi Field. Tuesday night is game two of the series Adam Wainwright (3-1 1.80) goes for the Cards, Dillon Gee (1-0 3.71) looks for his 2nd win for the Mets.
