Mets Minor League Report: April 28, 2014

MMLR Player of the Day: St. Lucie CF Brandon Nimmo

As I go to press, Reno (12-12) leads Las Vegas (18-6) 3-0 after 8 innings.

Dana Eveland had a decent start: 5.2 IP, R, 6 H, BB, 8 K.
Buddy Carlyle: 1.1 IP, R, H, (HR) BB, 2 K.
Vic Black: 1.0 IP, R, 0 ER, H, 2 BB.

Through 8 innings:
Juan Lagares, rehabbing: 1-4.
Andrew Brown: 1-3, 2B.

Akron (13-11) blanks Binghamton (12-9) 4-0.

Tyler Pill should sue his offense for non-support: He should have won a game like this: 5.0 IP, R, 3 H, 2 BB, 4 K.
Following Pill, T.J. Chism was very solid: 2.0 IP, 0 R, H, 0 BB, K.
Adam Kolarek wasn’t: 1.0 IP, 3 R, 0 ER, 2 H, BB.

I said it last night, and I’ll say it again tonight. SS Matt Reynolds continued his assault on Eastern League pitching. Tonight: 3-4, 3B. Reynolds hitting .389.
Too bad there weren’t a few more Reynolds in the lineup. The B-Mets might have scored some runs.

St. Lucie (14-10) sinks Charlotte (10-4) 7-3.

A very good night for starter, Matthew Koch: (W, 2-0)  6.0 IP, 2 R, 4 H, 2 BB, 5 K.
Jake Kuebler followed Koch: 2.0 IP, 0 R, H, K.
Randy Fontanez pitched an inning, gave a run: 1.0 IP, R, H.

Brandon Nimmo is putting together an unforgettable season: 4-4, HR, 2B, 2 RBI, 2 R. Nimmo’s avg. is now 407.
Not to be surpassed, T.J. Rivera did his best to keep pace: 2-4, 2B, RBI, R. T,J’s avg. is an identical .407.
Aderlin Rodriguez: 1-4, HR, RBI, R.
Eudy Pina: 1-2, HR, 2 BB, RBI, R.

Savannah (14-8) - not scheduled.

The old "if somebody told me"...if somebody told me before the start of the season that after 25 games, Nimmo, Reynolds, and Rivera would be hitting a combined .400, I'd have surely thought they were kidding. WOW and congrats. Nimmo totally doing it all right now.

My hat goes off to Matt Koch for actually walking 2 guys. I noticed his hits dropped to S in 6 innings. I hope the walks indicated a willingness to nibble, as he needs to get his hits per 9 down...and he did last night.

May be the only time 3 Met minor teams go scoreless in one night. Of course, Savannah (1 of the 3) was off so that helped!

Is Matt Reynolds SS for Bingo a real prospect for us ? I know he was a high draft pick but he fell off the radar. Looks like he is puttin it together in AA

Bob, from what I have read, he seems like nick Franklin in terms of ability to play SS - perhaps somewhat better. But he is tearing it up and the question is, can he show not that he can continue to hit .389, but that he can hit say .300 plus going forward. He has good size, but his extra base hits are fairly few so far in his career, so that means the average # has to be high or he will top out as a utility guy. That's my take. Hopefully, he flipped the switch like Nimmo has and is taking it to a higher sustainable level
