LAST GAME: Matt Reynolds tallied a career-high four hits and scored the go-ahead run in the eighth inning to lead the Binghamton Mets past the New Hampshire Fisher Cats, 3-2, on Saturday afternoon at NYSEG Stadium. With the game tied at 2-2 in the eighth, Matt Clark sent a sinking line drive to left. The liner bounced underneath Jon Berti, allowing Reynolds to scamper home from first base with the winning run. The score made a winner of John Church, who tossed two innings of relief, but also allowed a game-tying home run to Jack Murphy in the seventh inning. Chasen Bradford worked around a one-out single in a scoreless ninth, earning his third save of the year. Richard Bleier allowed one run over 2.2 innings of relief and took the loss.
BINGHAMTON STARTER: RHP Tyler Pill makes his third start of the season and second career start against the Portland Sea Dogs. The California native was tagged for seven runs on ten hits over 4.2 innings in a loss in his most recent start against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats last Saturday on the road. He allowed one home run, walked one and struck out four. Selected in the 4th round of the 2011 draft out of Cal State Fullerton, Pill was limited to four starts with the B-Mets last season before suffering a season-ending shoulder injury.
PORTLAND STARTER: LHP Henry Owens takes the mound for his fourth start of the season and second straight against the Binghamton Mets. The southpaw was touched for four runs on six hits, including two home runs, over five innings in his most recent start versus the B-Mets last Monday at Hadlock Field. He left on the hook, but took a no-decision after the Sea Dogs erased the deficit with a six-run sixth inning. Owens walked three and struck out four. Owens was selected as the 36th overall pick in the 2011 draft out of Edison HS (CA). He split last season between Salem (High-A) and Portland, going 11-6 with a 2.67 ERA in 26 starts between both levels.
TAKING CARE OF BUSINESS: With their 3-2 victory on Saturday afternoon, the Binghamton Mets secured their third series win of the season. Excluding their one-game series against the Portland Sea Dogs, they are 4-0 in series finales.
REYNOLDS ROLLING: Matt Reynolds extended his hitting streak to seven games with an emphatic four-hit game on Saturday. The shortstop has hit .556 (15-for-27) during the stretch and collected four multiple-hit games. He has raised his batting average to .383 to open the season, the fourth-highest average in the Eastern League.
ALL OVER THE LEADER BOARD: The B-Mets have three players in the top ten in batting average in the Eastern League, the most out of any team: Matt Reynolds (.383, 4th), Matt Clark (.364, 7th) & Darrell Ceciliani (.359, 8th).
STREAKING: B-Mets DH/1B Matt Clark is currently working on a nine-game hitting streak. He is hitting .417 (15-for-36) during the stretch with three doubles, four home runs and 11 RBI. The streak also includes a game against the Fisher Cats in which he walked five times and never registered an at-bat.
COMES TO AN END: Darrell Ceciliani’s season-opening hitting streak of eight games came to end on Saturday afternoon with an 0-for-4 performance. Ceciliani hit .400 (14-for-35) to open the year.
LAST YEAR VS. PORTLAND: The Binghamton Mets went 13-7 against the Portland Sea Dogs last year including an 8-4 mark at NYSEG Stadium.
HELLO AGAIN: The B-Mets and Sea Dogs match up for the second time this season and first time at NYSEG Stadium. Last week’s scheduled three-game series at Hadlock Field was reduced to one game due to rain, snow, ice and cold temperatures. Portland won the only game played by a 9-4 score.
