LAST GAME: Kyle Johnson’s pinch-hit, sac fly in the tenth inning plated Cory Vaughn with the game-winning run in the Binghamton Mets’ 5-4 walk-off win over the Portland Sea Dogs on Thursday night at NYSEG Stadium. Vaughn started the game-winning rally by pounding a double off the right-field wall, his third hit of the game. After a walk and a wild pitch, Johnson lifted a 2-2 from Miguel Celestino deep to center bring in the winning run. The B-Mets overcame a two-run deficit to force extras. Darrell Ceciliani singled home a run in the seventh and Matt Clark blasted a solo home run to tie the game in the eighth. Chasen Bradford posted two shutout innings of relief to collect the win.
GAME ONE BINGHAMTON STARTER: RHP Matt Bowman makes his third start of the season and second against the Erie SeaWolves. In his most recent start against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats on April 17, the righty matched a career-high with 11 strikeouts over seven shutout innings. He earned his second win in as many starts and allowed just four hits. Bowman defeated the SeaWolves in his Double-A debut on April 9, allowing one run over five innings.
GAME ONE ERIE STARTER: RHP Jeff Ferrell takes the hill for the third time this season and matches up with the B-Mets and Matt Bowman for the second time this year. Ferrell earned the win in his last start, defeating the Bowie Baysox on April 14. He allowed three runs over five innings, while striking out one and walking one. He scattered four hits and received four runs of offensive support. Ferrell fell to the B-Mets on April 9 at NYSEG Stadium, allowing two runs over 4.2 innings of work.
GAME TWO BINGHAMTON STARTER: LHP Darin Gorski makes his fourth start of the season and first against the SeaWolves in 2014. He took a no-decision in his most recent start, allowing three runs on six hits over six innings to the New Hampshire Fisher Cats at home on April 18. All three runs allowed came on solo home runs.
GAME TWO ERIE STARTER: LHP Kenny Faulk makes his first career start this evening. The south has made six relief appearances in 2014, going 0-0 with a 3.72 ERA. He spent most of last year with the Toledo Mud Hens (AAA), compiling a 3.65 ERA over 32 relief outings. All 201 of his previous appearances have come in relief. He pitched in 40 games for the SeaWolves in 2012. He was selected in the 19th round of the 2009 draft by the Tigers.
HEAVY BULLPEN LOAD: Over the last two games, both extra-inning affairs, the B-Mets bullpen has chewed up 9.1 innings of relief. They have allowed just two runs during that span, lowering their staff ERA to 3.81.
STREAKING: B-Mets DH/1B Matt Clark is currently working on an eleven-game hitting streak. He is hitting .400 (18-for-45) during the stretch with four doubles, five home runs and 12 RBI. The streak also includes a game against the Fisher Cats in which he walked five times and never registered an at-bat.
REYNOLDS KEEPS ROLLING: B-Mets middle infielder Matt Reynolds extended his hitting streak to ten games with a single in the third inning on Thursday night. He has hit .462 (18-for-39) during the stretch and collected four multiple-hit games. He has raised his batting average to .356 to open the season, the eighth-highest average in the Eastern League.
THAT’S DIFFERENT: B-Mets reliever Jack Leathersich used three groundouts to post a perfect eighth inning on Monday. It was the second time in his career the lefty has thrown an inning or more and not recorded a strikeout. Leathersich last did that as a B-Met against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats on April 12, 2013.
