Mets Provide Plenty of Fireworks

Well, that was a holiday weekend and a half!  First came the four straight against the league's best team and then that amazing comeback today against the Marlins.  Of course, there were some lowlights -- Matt Harvey again looking lost, Terry Collins again afraid to make a pitching change when even Stevie Wonder could see Harvey didn't have it -- but timely hitting made the fantasy of a comeback a reality.  Think of how you had the guy you most wanted at the plate in the 8th inning with the game on the line and Cespedes delivered.  He's rapidly becoming the anti-Beltran in big moments.

Truly a nice holiday weekend. Reyes reports tomorrow. Let's hope that Terry is smart enough to start giving regular rest to his infielders so that Flores finds a place to play regularly. The kid is definitely finding his groove.

He's on a minor league deal. The team is clicking right now. He's performed horribly in the minors. What is the rush to promote him? Furthermore, who is getting booted from the 40-man and 25-man rosters to make a space available?

Personally, I'd let Reyes remain at least two more weeks in the minors to ensure he's up to mid-season form and I'd get him some innings in the OF as well.

I kind of agree, but I think that the FO has talked themselves into this. Also, signing Reyes gave them the perfect out in not making a serious offer for Gourriel (sp?). I kind of thing that Reyes will add something. I just hope that Terry gets everyone around equal time (Reyes, Cabrera, Walker, Flores, Loney) keeping everyone fresh for the stretch run and not burying Flores.

That's probably why they promoted Reyes so quickly - to avoid Gourriel.

I think they are counting on the Harvey Effect...not the 2016 variety, but the 2012 variety, when he was so-so in AAA and then hit the ground roaring in the majors. They probably feel he will ignite when he returns. Hopefully.

Harvey seems to come a bit unhinged when his defense fails him. Yesterday, Nimmo throwing to the wrong base set off a mess of an inning. Maybe I'm reading too much into it, but it seems to be a pattern -- bad play, bad Harvey.

But, hey, what a thrilling win!
