Everyone repeat after me:
PETE, PETE, PETE!
Pete Alonso C..R..U..S..H..E..D a 454 laser beam to dead center last night, over the batter's eye and into the water.
If you blinked, you missed it.
Rumors that an asteroid landing caused an earthquake and tsunami warnings to be issued in Atlanta proved to be untrue. At least the tsunami part was untrue.
Statcast clicked it in at 118.3 MPH, one of the fastest shots ever recorded.
"FIRE THE LASER!" velocity, according to Dr. Evil.
Pete has tremendous power due to being a big, strong hitter.
But for guys with his size and strength, he has superior power. Just like former Astro OF Jim Wynn was called the toy cannon, because most guys his size were not close to Wynn in power, Pete's power - for his size - is also exceptional.
When I interviewed Jeff McNeil last year, he said Alonso had "stupid, raw" power. That surely about sums it up.
After lining a subsequent bullet single up the middle, the type that cause opposing pitchers to want to make sure their affairs are order, Alonso ended the day crushing at .378, with 6 HR, and 17 RBIs...on April 11. Wow.
Babe Ruth has been exhumed, and now plays in Queens.
Also notable was the strong Amed Rosario's early, long 3 run shot. Greatness could be coming - soon - for Amed.
Lastly:
Steve Matz:
Mr. Meet-the-Matz is rocking an ERA twice as good (1.65) as Jake deGrom (3.18) in 2019.
Steve is too humble to mention it, so I humbly will.
Uhh, Jake, ya have some Cy Young competition there?
Hey, sounds ludicrous to Mets fans, but ya never know. No, no really, ya, never know, I'm serious. Why?
Let me explain the new Steve Matz, not the one everyone seems to always be disappointed with and expecting more of - that's right, let me explain the REAL Steve Matz:
Last 11 starts, spanning 2018 and 2019:
61 IP, 70 K, just 38 H, 21 BB, ERA of 2.20.
What, exactly, is wrong with that?
Answer: NUTHIN'.
Last season, when the Mets started 11-1, I (and the rest of us) wondered how long it would last. Answer: not long.
This year, 8-4, but I have a distinct feeling this season will be special.
Especially when the Mets have a guy like godsend Edwin Diaz fanning Mets nemesis Freddie Frickin' Freeman to end the game as the tying run at the dish.
This sort of stuff, along with Jeff ".333 Or Bust" McNeil, MC Hammering, and a great hitting Wilson behind the plate and a so-far-so-great relief pitching Wilson in the pen, makes you not want to wait 24 hours for the next game.
LGM!!
And PETE:
KEEP FIRING THE LASER!

Alonso is doing things no one could have predicted this early... even you Thomas.
True, Mack.
Going into 2018, I expected him to do very well - but not as well as he did in 2018 and 2019 so far.
I am doing a follow up article on Sunday, showing why I think he should be a GREAT one.
Edwin Diaz can seemingly get the strikeouts when needed but he sure makes it scary sometimes
Reese
Every game does seem like a slide down a razor.
BTW
I still can't get any info on the status of Wilson.
Seems like he is MIA
Odd on Wilson - he has pitched well - hope he is still healthy - if not - LET'S TRY RYLEY GILLIAM!
