Portland 20 - Binghamton 2

Binghamton, NY – The Binghamton Rumble Ponies (30-19) fell to the Portland Sea Dogs 20-2 in the series opener of a four-game set Friday night in front of 4,110 fans at NYSEG Stadium. Portland homered six times, including two apiece from Tate Matheny and Bobby Dalbec. Deiner Lopez and Keith Curcio also went deep for the Sea Dogs (17-34). The loss snaps the Ponies three-game win streak.

The Sea Dogs set a franchise record for runs (20) and hits (26). Matheny finished 4-6 with three runs scored and six RBI. Lopez ended up 4-6, with two runs scored and five RBI.

Anthony Kay started the game for the Ponies and was taken out with two outs in the fifth and the Sea Dogs leading 2-0. Kay ended up being charged with four runs, three earned, allowing seven hits over four and two thirds frames taking the loss to drop to 6-3. It snaps the lefty’s five-game winning streak.

Binghamton RHP Joshua Torres allowed five runs over an inning and a third while lefty  David Roseboom allowed 6 runs over two thirds of a frame.

The two teams continue their series with a doubleheader on Saturday, with game one beginning at 5:35PM.

POSTGAME NOTES: The Ponies are now 11-4 in series openers and drop to 9-11 at home…Saturday the Rumble Ponies will be wearing orange “MS 4 MS” shirts (Mission Stadiums for Multiple Sclerosis) to raise awareness for Multiple Sclerosis research. Rumble Ponies Outfielder Dario Pizzano, whose mother is bravely battling the disease, is the organization’s Lead Baseball Ambassador.
