Tim Healey Newsday: David Peterson likely to be part of Mets' rotation. Lefthander David Peterson probably will be in the starting five, manager Luis Rojas said Friday, solidifying what had been a likelihood since the start of camp. And to replace Carlos Carrasco, who is out with a strained right hamstring, the Mets again are mulling using an opener in addition to one of their depth starters. "There’s a lot of different strategies that you can think of," Rojas said.

Not sure what the Mets would do with Tyler Flowers. Big day for Nido clinched his back up catcher spot, it seems.

If I were Mazeika, having a .500 OBP in nearly 30 plate appearances over the last two springs with just 4 Ks, I would certainly be disheartened.

Fargas too - good camp. Amazing when you get cut and the number of guys in camp is still 44.

Oswalt? I don't want to say what my brother said to me. In short, why is he still here?

Tom,

I think we all saw the other day why Oswalt is still here (5 Ks in 2 innings). He has the stuff, can he do it consistently? (Oh and he also was placed on waivers and no one claimed him).

I think the Mets are agreeing with what Jimmy pointed out yesterday on one of your posts, backup catchers need to be a defense first position (which explains the demotion of Mazeika and Rodriquez). Anything they give you with a bat is a bonus. By getting Tyler Flowers the Mets could pinch hit Nido with McCann and instead of making McCann come in to catch, Flowers can catch to give McCann the full day off from catching.

The other interesting thing is that the Mets released a catching first guy in Ali Sanchez. I guess the Mets did not see his potential.

As far as Mazeika is concerned he will be a minor league free agent after this year. If he does not get to the bigs this year, he will be elsewhere next year.

Definitely assume its last chance for Patrick Mazeika who deserves it. I assume he plays C/1B/DH again to get needed ABs.

Thanks Ernest. Also surprising that Andres Regnault was released.

Ernest, let's see what Mazeika has in the tank this year. Hard for me to believe that if the Mets give up on him, someone else won't want him
