Mack - Draft Thoughts: Bryce Hubbart, Brady Neal, Turner Spoliaric, Dalton Rushing, Ely Kennel

8-29-21 - Matt Collier @reillocity

CCBL FaBIO Evolutions: Bryce Hubbart, Florida State

OVERALL's risen since summer '20 breakout. Found a few mph on Cape, upping Draft stock. Unlike other - GB/+ IFFB/+ LD Avoid LHSP, mostly avoids Pull OFFB (high effective velo) making XBH rarer & half - CTL less runs punitive.

Mack's spin -

My current 8th LHP.

By the way... Matt is doing some great analytical work on prospects on his Twitter feed. You need to visit @reillocity and then follow this guy.

8-28-21 - Joe Doyle @JoeDoyleMiLB

One guy who did really well for himself at PGAAC was IMG Catcher Brady Neal. Opposite field approach. Above average raw power. Here he is taking 2021 Blue Jays 5th Round Pick Irv Carter deep into LF for a 2B.

Hit .371/.446/.612 last season w/2 HRs and a 12% K-rate. 16 years old

 Mack's spin -

16 years old and draft eligible with this stat line? WOW.

I am starting him off as my 13th catcher.

 TURNER SPOLJARIC

 Toronto Mets, RHP

Turner, son of ex MLB’er Paul (Blue Jays, Mariners, Phillies, Royals), is the highest ranking prep player out of Ontario. The righty had a good performance at the Perfect Game National Showcase this summer, showing a fastball sitting 88-90, touching 91 and a slider at 79. As a taller, leaner athlete he does have a lot of projection remaining on his frame. There’s definitive upside here. Turner is a good student with no current college commitment. He may be the first Canadian high schooler selected.

Mack's spin -

First I have heard of Spoljaric.

 WEST 1B

 Dalton Rushing (Louisville)

Dalton Rushing anchored the middle of the Bourne lineup all summer and posted great numbers on the back of his double-plus raw power. With big bat speed and good barrel feel, Rushing can certainly put a charge into one at the plate. Over 142 plate appearances, Rushing slashed .314/.401/.542 with six homers. Defensively, Rushing caught a bit, but first base feels like the long term home, and he looks plenty capable of handling that at the pro level. With more consistent playing time after the departure of Henry Davis and Alex Binelas, Rushing should get the opportunity to solidify himself as a top first base prospect in the 2022 draft.

Mack's spin -

Last year, Louisville had Alex Binelas playing first, so he was mostly a designated hitter.

This year, Rushing will be the full time starting first baseman and I expect a big bat year from him.

Currently on my board as the 8th 1Bman.

 ELY KENNEL

OF Santiam Christian High School (Monmouth, Oregon)

Kennel is a twitchy, jittery outfielder with quick hands and a lanky, projectable body. He hits from the left side of the plate and has some present pop, though most believe his future role will come by way of the hit tool. Kennel’s lower half is really strong and he really gets into his hips and legs when hitting. The operation is semi-reminiscent of how short and compact Joey Votto keeps his swing. Kennel is a plus runner with a plus arm and above average bat speed. He certainly has the athleticism scouts love to see at this age. He’s an Oregon State commit.

Mack's spin -

Early ink here.
