Some dirty laundry to clean up…
I always make definitive comments on
this site, saying things like “the Mets will…: and “so-and-so is not going to
be resigned by the Mets” and stuff like that. I constantly forget to begin
these with an “IMO” lead which would immediately clear up as to whether what I
was about to say was either fact or fiction.
99% of the time I spend writing is
written speculation, but that doesn’t mean I don’t talk to people that know
what the hell is going on. I guess on those occasions I should preface what I
was about to say with the ole dangerous “sources” tag. Ya know, people that do
this just seem to be either bragging they really know something or just putting
some credence to some pile of horseshit they are shoveling.
Sometimes, I know real things, but they
remain in the IMO category so I don’t violate the confidence of the people that
I engage with. Yes, the information they share with me influence what I write,
but I no longer attempt to grow this site by sounding like I’m some kind of big
deal running a major website. As that base player from the band Eddie & The
Cruisers once said, “we’re just a band from New Jersey”.
What this site is made of is a handful
of some very talented individuals. I am retired and retirees like myself and Reese Kaplan use that opportunity to
write more than we did when we worked for a living. Ray Savage is also retired, but he
only writes when he isn’t golfing (which means he doesn’t write that much
anymore). Tom Brennan is retired but he has added other “hobbies”
since he unsharpened his pencils, like singing and providing comedy in
Christian churches. A Christian comic. Boy, we could need more of these guys right
now, couldn’t we?
And then there is the Youth Squad. Paul Articulates works his ass off every
day and anything he finds time to write is a blessing here. John From Albany tags us every morning
at 4am with his award winning (what award???) recap ditty. The Nolan McLean of
this site, Ernest Dove, honors us with adding occasional podcasts he
features on YouTube. Recent additions Steve Sica has added a treasure on
Tuesdays and Angry Mike is putting up the most comprehensive
posts this site has ever had.
Nine great individuals. Nine great
writers. A real lineup.
The recent hirings of Kai Correa as bench coach and Jeff Albert as hitting coach speaks volumes about what coaching direction the Mets are heading to in 2026. Both of these guys have tons of expertise in what they do, though both represent opposite ends of the coaching pole. Correa is a defense maven while Albert is all about the bat. Exactly what the Mets need going forward.
It will be interesting to see how many of the 2025 Mets minor league brain trust get elevated this season. My guess is this is a pre-cursor of what the 26-man is going to look like in 2026... must better defense and solid all-around hitting. I mean, what would be wrong with a lineup that featured eight bats producing 20 home runs each, while hitting .275+ and producing around 80-RBIs while reducing the team errors and brain farts around 25%?
If this is true, it wouldn't ge good news to Pete and Scott. His only future as a Met could be a bloated five year deal while "playing"as a designated hitter.
The Rule V draft is just around second base and their remains some interesting Mets minor leaguers currently left unprotected. What about0 Matt Allan? Should he, at least, be protected to not trip getting out of his car when he arrives for Pitchers/Catchers? And, or course, there is Tom's favorite Eric Orze. Do any of you have others to add to this list?
Chris Suero hit his first AFL home run yesterday. This guy likes to hit things like this. The problem is, like Ryan Clifford, the rest of his game is incomplete. He did some exciting things this year in A+/AA ball... 16-HR, 68-RBI, 22-HBP, 35-SB... but his work is incomplete. He's currently tagged as a defensive asset behind the plate, but he needs to work on his framing. Cutting down the 139 punch outs and bumping up the .233 batting average wouldn't hurt either. I like this guy. I hope he plays the shite out of Syracuse come spring. In fact, I got a plan. Start Kevin Parada at catcher and split time in left and first with Suero. How's that for player development?

Senger should get starts at AAA next year as well as he will likely fill the same role as last year - MLB capable depth at AAA. With the advent of the challenge play on balls and strikes you wonder how important pitch framing will be going forward?
John, I was going to talk about the framing also. But, since teams only get two challenges a game, I’m sure that umpires’ calls can still be successfully stolen.
More reason to play Suero in left and on first
There certainly is much correspondence from different viewpoints. I never got the impression that anyone was misled by anything written nor did I feel you needed to clear anything up. In fact, you usually preface where the thought you are writing came from. Sometimes you can get overly sensitive, LOL, but everyone does a good job of being informative or creating discussion.
Maybe it’s due to my line of work as a restaurant employee, but I just can’t believe how y’all do it so many times a week. I had to write an article once a month and found it hard to find a topic or make the time to write it. I guess it’s not for everyone?
Me overly sensitive?
ME OVERLY EFFIN SENSITIVE!!!???
Gus, you “framed” that well.
When I think of the nine writers here, the Beatles “Number Nine” comes to mind. LOL. LOVE, LOVE, ME DO.
My Rule One is not to sweat the Rule 5.
Suero being a capable catcher will be his competitive advantage. My fiend’s brother played a decade as a MLB back up catcher.
Every time I see Matt Allan -> “TAPS” starts playing in the background inside my head. Tragic he had so many complications.
What is Allan’s health outlook for 2026? Why was he shut down in 2025? If he can get healthy, the Mets ALWAYS need pitchers. They had nearly fifty guys pitch for them in 2025. Allan and Montes de Oca are the two wounded warriors, now that Szapucki is elsewhere
If defense is a priority in the majors, it must also be a priority in the minors. Kevin Parada and Jacob Reimer are strong bats that don't have the defense to go with it. Parada in particular has been noted with a below average arm - pop time improvements may not help that. Should he be the one sharing time between OF and 1B?
I know that he was working out on the back mounds at Clover Park
Don't know if he is still there now
I thought Reimer got better as the year went along. He made some nice picks in the playoffs
Just spent the day at the doctors and with my wife. Normally I wouldn't post anything this late in the day. But.... My first impression of this post is "someone must have said to Mack". I assume most blogs on ant subject are opinion columns. Unless the writer says " According to..". , I assume it is an opinion. And we need to respect everyone's opinion.
Mack, this is the first blog I read regarding the Mets. As you outlined, a neck of a staff that doesn't need any defending.
Guys, keep doing what you are doing. Writing articles for the best Met's blog. And singing, and playing golf, and ....
Not sure my impression was correct but I felt impelled to say this
A source told me to thank you
Steve, we appreciate it. Hope all is well, health-wise. BTW, I plan this Sunday to do the song Gratitude by Brandon Lake. I can instead call myself Brennan Puddle, as I am no Lake. Have a great night.
Mack, I just reread my comment and noted my typos. Normally I double check before a post. Sister Mary Jean from many years ago. When something upsets me, I sometimes don’t double check.
Again keep up the good work. Love this blog.
Tom - At the end of the visit with the doctor, he told me I was a boring patient. Nothing here, nothing there. Keep doing what I have been doing. Blessed. My wife and I look at each other often and ask “What the heck did we do to be where we are physically, financially and family?
The only thing is being a Mets fan since the sixties.
Appreciate the thought
Enough. Let’s talk about the greatest team ( in our minds).
