STEVE SICA - Chris Suero goes Deep in the Desert, Troesser and Jenkins struggle in AFL Action

By, Steve Sica

Four Met prospects took the field in a slugfest, ending in a Salt River 12-9 victory over the Scottsdale Scorpions.

Chris Suero started the game in left field, his first start in that position on the AFL season. He spent six games in left field during his 2025 MiLB campaign. He went 2-for-5 with a home run, his first of the Fall, and three RBIs, which brought his season total up to five.

On the mound, three Met pitchers came in in relief. Brett Banks put together a scoreless inning on just nine pitches, with six for strikes. His second scoreless appearance this Fall.

Austin Troesser and Bryce Jenkins didn't perform as well. Troesser pitched an inning and a third, giving up two runs on two hits and one walk, and he got one strikeout. Jenkins lasted just one-third of an inning, as Salt River scored four runs off him on two hits and three walks.

Scottsdale will play again tomorrow night at 6:30 PST as they host the Glendale Desert Dogs.

I would love to see Suero play more left field and also add some reps at first. The kid is super athletic and could be a real three position option on a future Mets team.

Emphasis this spring must be to improve his framing, cut down the strikeouts, and bump up that BA.

I love the hitting. It is a tough league to pitch in, and given that, so far, so good for Brett Banks.

All you can hope for is a couple of prospects shining in the AFL each year while the rest of the kids sent simply get some well needed work in.

Jenkins would be the work in.

Morabito and Banks look like the reward.

Suero somewhere in the middle

Didn’t Yogi Berra play LF, 3B, and C?
