Tom Brennan - Tidbits of the Mets Kind

TOM'S TOTALLY TASTY TIDBITS

The World Series Started Yesterday.

The Mets weren’t in it.  In case you missed it. “Really?” “Yes, really.”

Blue Jays flew high and pooped all over the LA Ohtani’s in game 1, 11-4.

Anyway…

Remember Anthony Kay?  (Boy, could he pack the stands…)

Now 30 years old, the lefty former Mets first rounder out of a Long Island High School is planning to head back to the states from Japan after 2 years there.

Dylan Svoboda of the NY Post noted that:

“In Nippon Professional Baseball this season, Kay, 30, posted a 1.74 ERA over 155 innings. He also averaged 94.6 mph with his fastball and led the league with a 57.8 percent groundball rate.”

More than Oh Kay.

Would a lefty like Ant-ny, doing that, interest you for the team in Queens?

Moving on….quickly…to The Quick One…

NICK THE QUICK

I know Nick the Quick Morabito hasn’t played AAA yet, through no fault of his own (“hey David, can I promote myself?  No? Well, ya can’t blame me for trying.”).

But Nick the Quick Morabito has had a heckuva season, yes?  Ignoring his .210 season start in frigid AA into early May, with 35 Ks in his first 100 at bats through that date, how has Morabito done since?

In the rest of the AA season, he went 98 for 336 (.292) with 42 steals, a heck of a pace, and in the AFL (through Wednesday), Nick has gone 12 for 31 with 6 walks, just 5 Ks, and 8 steals.

So, over his last 367 at bats, he has hit .300 with 50 steals.

And he hit .66 points higher on the road than in the pitcher-befriending Binghamton Mirabito Stadium.

Me? I say, “Dang, bro’. I want y’all in Queens.”

Why can’t he be the 5th outfielder come opening day at Citi Field?

Again, Nick in almost any other year WOULD HAVE BEEN PROMOTED TO AAA, but they just promoted Jett, Cliff, Kevin, Carson, and Jonah.  Someone had to stay in Binghamton to guard the Safe House.

MAD MAX THE TIGER

I keep mentioning the exploits in the AFL of non-Met Esmerlyn Valdez, who had been on base 30 times in 10 games.  Well, Max Anderson of the Tigers has been no slouch either.

He is hitting .520/.700/1.040.  Keep that up, and his 1040 form will soon have some big numbers on the Wages line.

Anyway…

Have a great Saturday.

Remember that old song, “Everybody’s Working for the Weekend?”

I have a feeling that most of us are retirees, and every day is the weekend.

So…Happy Weekend.  Eight Days A Week.

WS -

Don't watch it unless the Mets are in it.

I am with you Tom, the Mets should have promoted Morabito to AAA and see what he could do there. I am also retired and yes, everyday is a weekend. That is one of the few good parts of getting older or should I say old.

Les, I turn 72 on Election Day. I elect not to be old. Stay agile, if you can. And, as I tell so many players here in my articles, avoid getting hurt if you can. Do young things…age is just a meaningless stat. Every reader on this site is a Satchel Paige and Julio Franco.

When I wake up at 4 AM, I pee and go back to sleep.

I too don’t watch…but I did watch the Jays load the bases against the LAD lefty ace, and they looked very tough at the dish. LAD has their hands full.

I turn 79 in February. Currently awaiting surgery for 90+% blockage of carotid arteries. Estimate surgery date around Christimas. That's how it works in a small southern town full of old farts. So... active is currently my enemy

53 here and still have about 15 more years of slinging pizzas in my future. So no retirement just yet, but like talking about our Metsies!!!

I watched the world series last night. It was surprising to see how well the Blue Jays hit Dodger pitching. Once you're on a roll...

I'm with Mack, as soon as my team is eliminated, I stop watching. This goes for all my sports teams.

That sucks because I'm a Jet fan, so my football watching is already over.

My one exception is the Super Bowl. I really will only watch it if I'm with friends or family.

I didn’t watch the World Series but read that in the ninth inning with Ohtani at the plate, Blue Jays crowd was chanting “we don’t need him”!

Tom I didn't have you pegged as a "Loverboy" so congrats and let the weekend begin.

JoeP, I watched 10 minutes. My first 10 minutes of post season. I am with you. The little I watched, the Mets lacked the Jays’ fire and determination.

Mack still heavy-lifts a mean pencil when he writes. 80 isa great target, it is when C+ grades turn to B-.

Morabito went 0-6 yesterday with three strikeouts… ouch! He’s down to .306 and the league is scoring runs like crazy. Suero is in the lower .200’s.

Most games, scoring is sky high. Yesterday? An extra innings, 5-4 squeaker. Now, Nick needs a 6 for 6 game.
