Devin Williams who’s
from Missouri and plays for Hazelwood West High (Awesome High School name). He
has a 90-94 fastball and a very intriguing changeup. Did I mention he’s also
6’2 and maybe 170lbs? So it’s fair to say there’s some room for muscle and
maturity and that’s leading me to believe there’s more left in the tank for
him. He’s committed to Mizzou and being it’s the hometown college and he hasn’t
gotten a ton of draft love there’s probably a good shot they get him. - link

The 100-mph-throwing University of Oklahoma
right-hander Jonathan Gray, who rejected a
Yankees offer for about $500,000 two years ago as a 10th-round selection, made
a wise decision. He has shot up the board and is now projected to be a top-five
pick in the draft, maybe even top two. One NL scout summed up like this:
"Really good. Power arm rumored to have touch 103.'' The 103 figure
couldn't be verified, but scouts said he hit 101 in several recent games,
including a 7-2 win over Pepperdine on March 2 and a 1-0 victory over
Northwestern (La.) State on March 15. What's more, in the shutout when he
struck out 12 and walked none, he hit 99 in the last inning. He also has the
ability to make his fastball sink or cut. link

Those poor Yankees..
A few years ago they drafted Gerrit Cole with their late first round pick. He didn't sign and a few years later he was the first overall pick in the 2011 draft.
Then, a few years ago they drafted Jonathon Gray in the tenth round. Once again, they could deal the deal, and this kid is going to probably be a top 5 pick in this year's draft.
Obviously, the Yankees have pretty good scouts, but at the same time, they aren't able to entice these kids to pass on college.
It just makes me think of their situation. George Sr. Died and his kid wants them to slash payroll next year. What a difference it would have made if they had Cole ready to step in to their rotation. Perhaps Gray the following year.
You can't really blame them. That's the nature of the MLB draft. If they had offered these guys an extra 500,000 they might have signed, but in most cases, that would be a huge waste. Usually, these kids amount to nothing. These two have gotten better and now the Yankees are left with an aging rotation, most of which are on one year deals and can't come back due to the self imposed salary cap, and they have little to none young pitching ready to step in.
Hughes is a FA after this year and like Joba, a big disappointment. Nova has never reached the success he had in his first year. Pineda is a question mark because of shoulder surgery. Now, imagine if they had Cole and Gray in their system. The big fight amongst NY fans would be who has the better pitching prospects. Fortunately, it's our team, the Mets.
It's funny how the draft works. It's such a huge gamble and it must be so crushing for teams when they sign guys that are total busts and fail to sign guys who end up being great. It's a very cruel system and so expensive at the same time. To be successful means to be right 5 to 10% of the time. That's insane.
