Mets Minor League Report – April 15

Savannah tops Greensboro 6-3
Sand Gnats’ hitters pounded out 13 hits, including 2 HRs, in this winning effort. Sand Gnats’ pitchers returned the favor, allowing 14 hits, also with 2 HRs. The difference in the game was the 3 unearned runs given up by Greensboro on Brandon Nimmo’s 3 run homer, after a fielding error by the Grasshopper shortstop prolonged the inning.
Logan Taylor slogged through 4.0 innings, allowing 3 runs on 8 hits and a walk. He struck out 4 batters.
Matt Koch, although he got the W, didn’t fare much better in his 4.0 innings, giving up 2 runs on 6 hits, 2 of them being HRs. He struck out 5.
Hunter Carnivale got the save, his 2nd of the year, tossing a perfect 9th inning with 2 ground outs and a pop up.
Brandon Nimmo had a 5 RBI night, going 3-5 with a HR. The red hot Nimmo has his AVG up to .429 for the year.
Jayce Boyd went 2-5 with a 2B.
Kevin Plawicki was 1-4 with a 2B and 2 runs scored.
Cole Frenzel and Phillip Evans both went 1-5, Frenzel’s hit being a 2 run homer.
Jeffrey Glenn and Jeff Reynolds each had 2 hits for the night.

St. Lucie comes from behind to beat Charlotte 6-3
Domingo Tapia (W, 1-1) struck out 8 in 6.0 IP. He allowed the Stone Crabs 3 runs, only 2 of them earned, on a walk and 5 hits, one of them a HR.
Pedro Feliciano (he’s baack)  pitched an inning, with 1 H, 1 BB, and 1 K.
Randy Fontanez went 2 perfect innings for the save. He struck out the last 4 hitters to end the game.
Gilbert Gomez: continued his hot hitting, going 2-3, with 1 R.
Cam Maron, Brian Harrison, Dustin Lawley and Travis Taijeron each had 1 hit, Lawley’s being a HR, the Mets only XBH of the night.

Binghamton falls to Portland 7-4
The Sea Dogs pounded Luis Mateo (L, 0-1) for 4 ER on 3 walks and 6 hits, including a HR, in his 3.0 innings of work. (and work it was)
Shawn Teuffel (Timmy’s little boy) made his AA debut, allowing no runs on 2 hits and a walk, with 2 Ks in his 2.0 innings.
John Church also held the Sea Dogs without a run, allowing only 1 hit with 3 Ks in his 2.0 innings.
Chase Hutchingson was not so fortunate in his 2.0 innings, getting tagged for 3 ER on a walk and 4 hits, one of which was a HR. He struck out 2.
The Mets offensive highlights were few and far between, and not really worth commenting on.

Colorado Springs leads Las Vegas 8-2 after 3 ½ innings.
Chris Schwinden was pulled after3.2 innings, getting pounded to the tune of 8 runs (only 4 of them earned) on 7 hits (2 HRs) and 3 walks. He has 4 Ks. Armando Rodriguez relieved Schwinden with men on 2nd and 3rd and records a strikeout to end the inning.
The offense has generated 3 hits, the highlight being Juan Lagares’ 2 run triple in the 2nd inning. The lowlight is the 51’s three errors (Quintanilla, Flores and d’Arnaud) over the first 3 innings.

I can't help but be amused by the names of some of these teams. Sand Gnats, Grasshoppers, Sand Crabs, Sea Dogs, . . all names that strike terror into the hearts of their opponents.
