LAST GAME: Portland scored the game-winning run on a wild pitch from John Church in the bottom of the tenth inning to defeat the B-Mets ,9-8, on Tuesday night. Binghamton jumped out 3-0 quickly in the first inning against Major League rehabber Craig Breslow. Allan Dykstra’s two-run double got the B-Met offense going. They tacked on two more runs in the second inning against Brandon Workman. Danny Muno hit an RBI double down the left field line, and came around to score after a Portland fielding error. Portland came back in the third, plating four runs against B-Met starterTyler Pill. Binghamton responded in the fifth with a sac fly from Josh Rodriguez to get the lead to 6-4. In the bottom half, however, Portland tied it up on an RBI triple by Heiker Meneses. Meneses struck again in the seventh; he smacked a two-run triple against Adam Kolarek to give the Sea Dogs an 8-6 lead. In the eighth inning, the B-Mets took advantage of another Portland error to tie the game, 8-8. Kolbrin Vitek skipped a throw past first base allowing two runs to score. In the tenth, Church’s wild pitch allowed Meneses to score the game-winning run.
BINGHAMTON STARTING PITCHER: RHP Erik Goeddel makes his fourth career start with the B-Mets. Goeddel has lost each of his last two starts, lasting 4.1 innings in each of them. In his last start, 4/19 @ NH, he allowed a season-high five runs, including two home runs. Erik was drafted by the New York Mets in the 24th round of the 2010 draft out of UCLA.
PORTLAND STARTING PITCHER: RHP Kyle Kaminska makes his fourth start of the season for the Portland Sea Dogs. In his first season in the Boston organization, he is 0-2 with a 7.53 ERA. He hasn’t lasted more than 5.0 in any outing in 2013. In his last start, he gave up five runs (three earned) in 4.1 innings in a loss to New Britain. Opponents are hitting .369 against the right-hander. He played his first five seasons in the Marlins system, including two seasons with Double-A Jacksonville. Before being traded to Pittsburgh on 7/31, Kaminska was 6-3 with a 5.11 ERA in 31 bullpen appearances with the Suns last year. With Pittsburgh, he started three games with High-A Bradenton, before finishing the season with the Altoona Curve. In four appearances (one start), he went 1-0 with a 3.00 ERA in 12.0 innings.
EXTRA INNINGS: Last night was the first time that Binghamton has gone into extra innings this season. In 2012, they played in eight extra-inning affairs. They went 5-3 in those contests, including going 2-0 against Portland. On 8/26, they beat the Sea Dogs 5-3 in 10 innings. They also won 6-5 in 10 innings 5/19.
BULLPEN DECISIONS: In last night’s defeat to Portland, John Church was tagged with the loss. It was the first game since 4/12 vs NH that a member of the B-Met bullpen was handed a decision. In 2013, Mark Cohoon is the only bullpen guy with a win (2-0). Church is the only one with a loss (0-3). Jeff Walters (5) and Jack Leathersich (1) have both recorded saves.
HARRIS ON ANOTHER STREAK: Alonzo Harris is currently on a B-Met season-high seven-game hitting streak. He has hit safely in 15 of his 18 starts, and has hit leadoff in each of those 18 games. He began 2013 on a six-game hitting streak, and is batting .278 so far this year.
LOSING WAYS: The B-Mets have lost two straight games for just the second time in 2013. They also lost two consecutive to Erie 4/9-4/11. Binghamton is 6-2 this season in games following a loss.
NEXT GAME PREVIEW: The B-Mets have their first off day of 2013 on Thursday. On Friday, they begin a three-game series against the Akron Aeros at NYSEG Stadium. First pitch is set for 7:05 PM as RHP Rafael Montero will face RHP Danny Salazar. These two faced each other on Opening Day in Akron.
