Jeremy Martinez,
C, Mater Dei HS (CA) - People are all over the place on where Martinez stands
in the 2013 MLB draft. No one questions his makeup, leadership and defensive
abilities, but some question his bat. After starting the season 3-for-17 (.177)
over his first six games with no extra-base hits, the 6’-0” right-hander has
been an on-base machine for the number-one ranked team in the country. Over his
last 11 games, he is hitting .438 (14-for-32) with two doubles, 11 RBI and has
drawn five walks. He also has been hit by a pitch four times over that span for
a .561 OBP. Mater Dei’s schedule has been brutal, and Martinez has more than
held his own against the best competition out there.t link
