A lot has been written about this kid as being part of the future, seemingly out of nowhere. I know he is a converted SS who was thought to be better than Reyes when he first signed. Can he really be the CF/leadoff hitter for this team? I'm starting to picture a 1-2-3 in the lineup of Lagares-Nimmo-Wright, all homegrown and sooner rather than later.
Mack -
TC said he was part of the future, no one else. The others are quoting TC. What else is the manager going to say on the day that the kid is called up? He has less talent than Valdespin, but can be managed :) ?
I never have seen Lagares being a starter at any position in major league baseball. I think he has the talent to be a utility outfielder and a defensive replacement with pop in the late innings (also, PH). That's all. However, in the current Mets system and their lack of OF talent, he is a better chooice than Nieuwenhuis, especially since den Dekker is on the IR.
Even TC said that Lagaes would have never got these AAA at bats if dD was healthy.
No, IMO, you have a chance of a future homegrown 1-2-3, but it would be den Dekker, Nimmo, Wright.
