First off, a big shout out to Magnificent Matt Harvey, who pitched one of the most dominant games in N.Y. Mets history. But for a scratch single in the 7th inning, which would have been an easy out if it were hit 3 ft. to the right, Harvey might have had a perfect game.
Matt, our hats are off to you! Although it is still early in your career, you are showing signs of emerging as one of the elite pitchers in the game.
Savannah (19-11) whips Hickory (18-13) 9-6
Starter Gaby Ynoa (W, 4-2) gets an ill deserved win, pitching 5.0 innings, allowing 5 ER on 7 H, (4 HR) with 2 K. You read it right . . 4 home runs allowed!
Julian Hilario, (0 R, 0 H, BB, 2 K) Tyler Vanderheiden, (0 R, H, BB, 2 K) Beck Wheeler, (ER, 2 H, HR, 0 BB, 2 K) and Bret Mitchell (0 R, 0 H, 2 BB, 2 K) each pitched a solid inning of relief to end the game. Mitchell earned his 4th save in the process.
Eudy Pina went 2-5, with 2 HR, a 2B, 4 RBI, and 2 R.
Jayce Boyd and Kevin Plawecki each went 1-3 with an RBI. Boyd walked twice.
Philip Evans was 3-4, with a HR, a BB, 2 RBI and 4 R.
St Lucie (20-11) clobbers Daytona (16-15) 13-3
Dustin Lawley: 2- 4, HR, BB, RBI, 3 R.
Aderlin Rodriguez: 2 -5, HR, 2B, 2 RBI, R.
Travis Taijeron: 2- 5, HR, RBI, 2 R.
Charley Thurber: 2 -4, 3B, 2B, 4 RBI, R.
Starter Matt Bowman: (W, 1-0) 3 ER, 6 H (HR) and a walk, with 7 strikeouts in 6.0 innings of work.
Estarlin Morel (1.0 innings with 2 K) and Chase Bradford (2.0 innings with a K) were both perfect to close out the game.
Trenton (18-14) once again knocks off Binghamton (16-16) 5-1
Binghamton starter Rafael Montero (L, 3-3) deserved a better fate. In 6.1 innings he allowed 3 runs (all earned) on 3 hits and a 2 walks, with 8 strikeouts.
Lefty Josh Edgin, pitched the final 1.2 innings, giving up 2 runs (both earned) on 3 hits and 2 walks, with 3 strikeouts. Edgin certainly does not look like the very effective reliever he was last year.
Offensively, the Mets were ineffective once more, collecting only 3 hits on the night, one of them a HR by Cesar Puello.
At this time, Las Vegas (14-15) leads Round Rock (18-13) 1-0 after 5.
The 51’s scored the lone run of the game on their lone hit of the game, a 1st inning home run by Josh Satin.
Collin McHugh has, thus far, pitched 6 shutout innings, holding R.R. to 4 hits with 5 strikeouts.
Let’s keep our fingers crossed.

Rafeal Montero had an okay outing. It will be interesting to see if the Mets call him up because they need another starter because they need someone other than Harvey winning games. Montero has an arsenal of pitches that he can throw for strikes. It would make sense for him to make a jump. Nice blog!
Thank you for your comment about the blog.
I fully understand the desire to find 'another Harvey' but Montero is a work in progress. He still needs to pitch against ex-major leaguers in AAA, nut just his school buddies in AA.
It's just part of the process.
I do; hoever, see him ready for next season.
Mack
