Good Morning. Happy Birthday Dave Schneck, today was to be the Brooklyn Cyclones Opening
Day, it is the anniversary of the Lenny
Dykstra for Juan Samuel
trade, and MLB and the Union seem to move closer to deal.

MLB
Trade Rumors: Mets Agree To Terms With Second-Rounder Isaiah Greene. He’ll
receive $850K. The 69th overall selection used to nab Greene came with a
$929,800 pool allocation. Accordingly, the New York organization will actually
save some funds to apply to other drafted players.
MLB
Trade Rumors: Mets fourth-rounder Matthew Dyer is on board with a $350K bonus, per
MLB.com’s Jonathan Mayo (Twitter link). That’ll save the New York org nearly $230K to
apply to other draftees. Dyer, an Arizona product, ranked 333rd on Baseball
America’s final draft board. Mayo credits him with a strong throwing arm and
good athleticism for a backstop.

News: Manfred, Clark reach framework: 60 games, full prorated pay. Baseball’s
postseason would expand from 10 teams to 16 this year, and the two wild card
games would transform into an eight-team wild-card round with eight
best-of-three series; The designated hitter would expand to all games for the
first time, also involving games between National League teams, for 2020 and
2021; Both sides would contribute jointly to initiatives for social justice; The
union also would waive additional claims that could cause an expensive
grievance.
MLB
Trade Rumors: The players would have $33MM of the $170MM
advance they received from their March agreement with the owners forgiven, per Heyman. Teams, meanwhile, would be able to sell advertisements on
uniforms in 2020 and ’21 in order to increase their revenues, according to Joel Sherman of the New York Post.
Early word is players don’t love the 60 games and some are even calling it a proposal not the agreement owners see it as. Owners view it as an agreed-to deal with players’ option being to turn it down, whereupon they could get a 50-game mandated season as allowed by March 26 deal— Jon Heyman (@JonHeyman) June 18, 2020

Sherman NY Post: I’m not counting on MLB 2020 season happening just yet. “Manfred
left those meetings believing a framework was reached…the players association
issued this terse statement: ‘Reports of an agreement are false.’ All that was
missing were disclaimers about the existence of Santa, the Easter Bunny and the
Tooth Fairy.”
ESPN.com:
Sources on both sides of the negotiations said there is an expectation that
further talks will result in a schedule of about 65 games.
NBC
Sports: ‘Framework’ includes DH in NL for 2020-21, could become permanent.
“If we never see the DH in the National League again, then it’s fitting that
Giants lefty Madison Bumgarner (now with the Diamondbacks) hit the last home
run as a pitcher. He homered off of Rockies pitcher Jeff Hoffman on September
24 last year.”

The Phillies trade second baseman
Juan Samuel to the Mets for outfielder Lenny Dykstra, relief pitcher Roger
McDowell, and a player to be named later, that will be minor league pitcher
Tom Edens. New York's experiment to turn their new infielder, who will play
only 86 games with New York, into a center fielder will fail miserably, while
'Nails' will go on to be a three-time All-Star and a cog in Philadelphia's
National League championship in 1993, being selected as the runner-up for the

Hard to believe Dave Schenck is 71 - time sure flies.
I probably should care about what the two sides are grappling over, but frankly I don't care. Everyone has enough else on their minds. PLAY BALL!
We seem to have built up a lot of cash to sign Ginn - I can't imagine him passing that up, since Tommy John surgery does not always result in a return to full capabilities.
Tom -
All the signing issues are addressed with the players before they pick them.
Both the Mets and Ginn know the magic number needed to sign him.
I think you will even see a shaving of PCA's bonus to bring JT in.
Mack, so it sounds like all that stands between the Mets and this being a super draft is Ginn's elbow healing fully.
This is 180 degrees different than the Giolito draft. Mets went 12th and went for "safe" Gavin Cecchini, while the Nats 4 picks later knew about Giolito's elbow issues and high ceiling, and ignored the elbow issues and went for the high ceiling.
Giolito was 14-9 and fanned 228 in 176 innings last year. Cecchini? I dunno, you tell me. Not so "safe".
