Michael Braswell
SS 6-2 180 Campbell HS (GA)
PG -
Michael Braswell is a 2021 SS/RHP with a 6-2 180 lb. frame from Mableton, GA who attends Campbell. Long and slender athletic build with lots of physical projection. 6.78 runner in the sixty, is quick and athletic through the ball in the infield, very soft and sure hands at the ball, gets on top of his throws well with good carry, plays under control and slows the game down on defense. Right handed hitter, hand pump load can leave him late at times but has quick hands and gets the barrel out, line drive approach with the chance to develop power in the future. Also pitches, mid to low 3/4's arm slot, easy flowing delivery he repeats very well. Fastball topped out at 90 mph, mostly straight. Slider is his best secondary pitch, tunnels well with his fastball and has some bite, has feel for throwing his curveball and change up for strikes as well.
Michael Braswell – SS: Braswell is a player who is tough to take your eyes off of when he first steps on the field. From the body projection to the athleticism, to the twitch he shows, the free and easy actions as a Plus defender at SS with a TON of flare, and energy out on the field. It’s a lot of the same characteristics that Javier Baez brings to the table for the Cubs. However that’s where the comp ends because they are pretty different offensive talents, but Braswell has his own strengths with the (50+) Hit tool that he shows such a unique ability at this age to have a CF-RCF line drive approach that he consistently finds hard contact and barrels. And the potential to tap into 20 HR Power, however, I think he settles in as a 15-18 HR guy.
Michael Braswell - It’s a tough summer to be a prep shortstop. The position is deeper than I can remember it being in any draft in recent memory. Any other year, Braswell might be a headliner at the position. This year? He might be the 4th or 5th best guy. That being said, Braswell did well for himself Friday night. His first at-bat was against Jackson Jobe. He fell behind in the count but stayed back on a really, really good slider and drove it back up the middle with authority for a base hit. He’d then promptly steal a base. Braswell above average defense was on display as well, keeping an errant throw from going into centerfield with a diving stop at the cut of the grass, saving a run. Braswell may not get the press that guys like Brady House, Jordan Lawlar or Marcelo Mayer get, but an organization is going to be getting a very good player if selected next July.
