So what is everybody else's take on this 'Opener' thing?
Personally, I cannot see the point. Why waste a pitcher before the game is hardly started when the later innings are not known yet. Just let Lucchesi start and if you don't want him to go three times through the order, pair him up with somebody that can throw four or five innings on the back end.
Does the opener have to warm up enough where he wouldn't be available the next day? If he cannot throw two days in a row, then it seems really dumb.
