Tim Healey Newsday: Infielder Luis Guillorme was scratched from the lineup Monday after being hit in the hand by a pitch during a simulated game Sunday. X-rays were negative. Rojas said he expects Guillorme to play Tuesday (off the bench) or Wednesday (starting) . . . Righthander Arodys Vizcaino (sore right elbow) threw a bullpen session, a positive sign he will be able to return this weekend.

NY Daily News: Luis Rojas says Mets rotation candidate Joey Lucchesi was better than his stat line. “I thought he threw well,” said Rojas…“He’s facing a really, really tough lineup and struck out three out of the first five he faced,” said Rojas. “Pitches were located really well and then the zip on his fastball was good.”

NY Daily News: After one month with Mets, Luis Rojas says James McCann looks ‘outstanding’. “Outstanding catcher. Outstanding clubhouse guy. Teammate. True leader,” said Rojas of McCann, one of the newest members of the team. “A lot of positives.”

The Mets have signed former Cardinals Prospect Sam Tewes to a minor League deal.

Lots of stuff - I just want season to start.

Almora struck out his first 3 times up, then popped a dinger off a guy named Emanuel. Is that a good or bad day?

Lucchesi is my # 5 - or am I crazy or fugazi to want Lucchesi?

Lucchesi has had some good results so far this camp but we have seen pitchers do well in Spring or to start the season and then slump. I am ok with him as the number 5 to start but we may need to use some of that depth if he struggles. Hopefully Carrasco and Thor will be back sooner than later.

Let's see . . .

1) Great comment on Almora, Tom. I don't know the answer. Ultimately I doubt he's a good hitter. But he's in the right role for this team.

2) On Justin Wilson: It's better to be lucky than to be smart.

3) No DH this year? It demonstrates the dysfunction of MLB. All the good reasons for using a DH in 2020 still remain true today, compounded by the fact that all these pitchers haven't had full seasons. I mean, in the NFL the figured out that they need to PROTECT THE QB. Put rules in place to help protect the valuable assets, the guys who control the quality of the product. The players want the DH, the owners want the DH, the fans want the DH -- but we have such a sickness these days, that no one can compromise because it is a signal of weakness. Very frustrating to watch.

4) I like Vizcaino, hope the arm holds up. Guy closed for Braves for a while.

5) Not surprised to see Wacha doing well so far. I liked him last year, just thought he got exposed when forced into a larger role. He was a depth piece last season, and so was Peterson. Meanwhile, Porcello is still out there, sitting by the phone. The guys who can't go deep -- and Wacha had that problem -- really tax the bullpen and that can have a negative ripple effect for days. That's what every team needs to avoid; I don't understand why more teams don't have the old Don Cardwell, Dick Selma role of long man, spot starter. Those guys used to put in big innings over the course of a season. I was all set to see Lucchesi in that role. Maybe he'll slide back into it after Carrasco & Syndergaard find their way back to the bump.

Jimmy, I was excited when I saw Vizcaino pitch - I hope he can shake off the aches and help this team.

Would Porcello take a minimum contract? Not likely. He is probably waiting for some team to get desperate. I wonder if he could have success in a long relief role.

The DH? Truly idiotic to not have it. My guess is Springer would have been here if the Mets knew the DH was a go.

Vizcaino is a health issue: I have no idea. If he's right, he's solid.

Not advocating that we pick up Porcello, but he probably will make sense for somebody once the injuries hit. It's my same old comment about depth. Sure, it's great -- so long as you don't have to use it. Because if you lose a #2 and #3, then #6 and #7 are going to be like falling off a cliff. Unless you've got an Ian Anderson in your system, young and ready to step up.

On Springer: I don't know anymore. When you look at the finances, the free agents, I can see the logic of passing on him. He was never going to be "the answer" for CF.

Conforto's 2020 BABIP does scare me. But it's such a solid lineup, I'd think he'll be helped by that.

Vizcaino could be a solid piece to the bullpen. A different look is not a bad thing. It is still a numbers game, though.

Porcello would have no role on this team. Peterson, Lucchesi, and Yamamoto are all another injury waiting to happen once Syndergaard and Carracso come back. They have all pitched reasonably well this spring.

I tend to agree with Tom. Had the DH been decided earlier, I think Springer is the centerfielder. Also, I also believe (did I write this yesterday someplace??) that if Bauer had signed before Springer, the Mets would have been a bit more agressive with Springer and would probably have ended up signing him.
