It's hard for collegiate second basemen to get onto prospecting radars: they're often at the keystone because of other deficiencies in their game, be it their range, their arms, or some combination thereof. Ferguson boosted his stock last season, moving to second on a permanent basis and hitting .333/.462/.524 with two homers and nine steals in 13 games. He's never going to hit for much power as a professional, but he does have above-average wheels and could go in the top 50 with a strong spring.

Morissette is the stereotypical polished college infielder likely to go late in the first or early in the compensatory round. He does a little bit of everything, but he doesn't necessarily have a real plus tool. Nick Loftin went 32nd to the Royals last summer, and that should provide a guidepost on where Morissette becomes an option. Boston College hasn't produced a first-round pick since Justin Dunn in 2016, and hasn't had two players go in round one since Tony Sanchez and Mike Belfiore in 2009.

Black had a Freshman All-American season in 2019 (.353/.469/.600, 7 HR) but scuffled out of the gate in the shortened 2020 season (.239/.340/.370). He controls the zone at an impressive rate—walking 38 times to 18 strikeouts in 2019—but has limited defensive tools and has mostly hit with a pull-heavy approach. While the profile won't be for everyone, it's hard to not see Black appealing to model-heavy teams who appreciate his plate discipline and performance in the Horizon League as a 19-year-old. If he bounces back with the bat over a full season in 2021, he will trend up.

Riggio is one of the more famous and well-known prospects in the 2021 class given his long history of performance as an underclassman and with Team USA. Because of his fame and size—he’s listed at 5-foot-9, 180 pounds—the long-time UCLA commit has been difficult for scouts to come to a consensus on. Those who buy into his profile see a baseball rat with a high IQ who makes the most of his tools with a great feel for hitting and making adjustments in the box with more power to the pull side than you would expect. Skeptics see a nice player who would become a factor in the draft in the fourth-to-sixth-round range, but one who they’d prefer to go to college in Los Angeles and prove his toolset. Riggio has a lean frame with some present strength and sees the ball deep into the zone with a solid approach and batting eye and makes good adjustments within at-bats. While he’s a solid runner, scouts don’t see a no-doubt plus runner who could handle center, which makes him a corner outfield profile, putting him under more scrutiny without plus power or a projectable frame to dream on. Still, production matters and Riggio has produced almost everywhere he’s been.

Strong athlete in an undersized but pitbull like frame. Quick left handed swing with strong hands and over the fence power already. Looks to be primarily a second baseman but has played outfield as well. Riggio really struggled early on this summer, but has had a few good weeks now. Riggio is an Oklahoma State commit and one of the top players in a strong California Prep class.

Hit: Switch. Starts with a balanced, athletic setup. Short knee lift, hands load back, with slight barrel tilted load, into a short stride. Swings an uphill bat path.
Power: 86 mph exit velocity from the tee. Switch hitting, line drive, up the middle approach with average bat speed.
Run: 7.22 runner in the 60. Heavy footed runner.
