Edwin Arroyo
Mack's spin -
Another of the highly talented prep shortstops in this draft.
His game is defense first, but his offense should come in time. Hell, he will only be 17 on opening day. No older than a DSL player.

30. Edwin Arroyo, SS, Arecibo Baseball Academy, Bajadero, P.R.
Arroyo has a plus arm, fluid actions, and consistent hands. The switch-hitter faces more concerns about his swing and approach at the plate. There's potential there, but teams are going to want to see Arroyo make consistent hard contact this spring.

46. Edwin Arroyo, SS, Arecibo Baseball Academy (PR)
Arroyo is a switch-hitting shortstop who will stick at the position, but who won't turn 18 years old until months after the draft ends; that combination ought to ensure he goes early enough to forego his commitment to Florida State. Arroyo has the hands, the arm, and the short-distance quickness to become a plus defender. What he doesn't have is a refined swing or approach. Arroyo's bat speed and loft suggest he could offer above-average pop in due time; the amount of swing-and-miss in his game, meanwhile, indicates he might want to prioritize making more contact.

Edwin Arroyo Arecibo Baseball Academy, P.R. SS
Ht: 5-11 | Wt: 170 | B-T: B-B
Commit/Drafted: Florida State
Age At Draft: 17.9
The top Puerto Rican prospect in the 2021 class, Arroyo is one of the best defensive shortstops in the class. The Florida State commit has impressive actions in the field, with solid, reliable hands and above-average instincts to go along with easy plus arm strength. Arroyo threw 96 mph across the diamond at Perfect Game’s National showcase and has consistently shown big arm strength in games throughout events this summer. A unique athlete who is ambidextrous and can throw with both hands, Arroyo also hits from both sides, though his offensive game is behind his defensive game at the moment. He has a solid swing from both sides of the plate in batting practice, and scouts think he has a chance to develop above-average raw power from both sides in the future, but evaluators have wanted to see more from him in games. He did have an impressive hitting performance at the Perfect Game All-American Classic—where he was the youngest player at the event—doubling and singling against 92-plus mph velocity, but his bat path can get in and out of the zone a bit too quickly. Arroyo has solid bat-to-ball skills and scouts believe he could take a big step forward in the spring with additional strength and continued development of his approach in the box.

FSU shortstop commitment Edwin Arroyo checks in at No. 52, right behind Martin. The scouting report on him is below:
One of the younger players in the 2021 Draft class, Arroyo quickly established himself as the best player from Puerto Rico on the summer showcase circuit, including picking up a pair of hits at the Perfect Game All-American Classic. The potential up-the-middle player will get the chance to be evaluated more closely in the spring, when he comes to Florida to attend Central Pointe High School for his senior season.
Arroyo offers an intriguing package of athleticism, defense and offensive potential, though he has a ways to go to get there. A switch-hitter, who is a bit better from the right side of the plate, Arroyo has good contact skills, and while he lacks current strength, he does have the chance to grow into some extra-base pop. Defensively, Arroyo has every chance to stick at shortstop, with plenty of arm strength, good hands and easy actions at the premium position.
Arroyo can actually throw with both hands and has pitched left-handed. That doesn’t necessarily impact his Draft stock, but does point to some intriguing athleticism in the Florida State recruit. If he can add some strength and perform well against better competition in Florida in the spring, his stock could soar.

Bio:
Height: 6-0
Weight: 170 lbs
Hits/Throws: S-S
Hometown: Arecibo, PR
School: Arecibo Baseball Academy
A switch-hitting dynamo with good actions on the dirt and a big arm, Arroyo is an enticing profile. He's shown fringe-average pop from both sides of the plate and a hit tool that works from both sides as well. The hustle and effort on the field is undeniable. Arroyo doesn't have any super loud tools, but the whole package is there and likely has the floor of a talented utility man at the next level.

Edwin Arroyo, SS, Puerto Rico (Arecibo Baseball Academy, Bajadero, P.R.)
Arroyo is the No. 30 high school player in the 2021 class, and while the Florida State commit struggled at the Future Stars Series, he did flash the tools to show his upside in the field. He's 5-foot-11, 170 pounds with an outstanding arm, plus speed and quick reactions off the bat. He's a smooth defender, and while he committed two errors (one fielding, one a wild throw), he also turned in one of the best defensive plays of the event, ranging from shortstop behind the second base bag on a grounder to slide, spin and turn to throw out the batter at first base. A switch-hitter, Arroyo's glove was ahead of his bat here, as he went 1-for-13 with a walk and four strikeouts. He also just turned 17 in August and will be 17 on draft day, so he's one of the youngest players in the 2021 class.

Edwin Arroyo is a 2021 SS/LHP with a 6-0 170 lb. frame from Arecibo, PR who attends Arecibo Baseball Academy. Lean athletic middle infielder's build with some present strength and room for more. 6.53 runner in the sixty, very smooth and graceful actions in the middle infield, stays balanced and works behind the ball, can play on the run, huge raw arm strength when he can load up on his throws. Switch-hitter, hits from an open stance from both sides with a similar gliding leg lift load, right handed swing is quick and direct with hard line drive contact, bit more of an uphill approach with a lower hand start from the left side. Raw tools have taken a nice step forward and may even improve more as he gets stronger
Edwin Arroyo – SS: The #1 player out of Puerto Rico. And talk about an athlete… Arroyo has the most unique skillset and overall profile in the entire class. A switch hitter, switch thrower, that plays a premium position (SS) at a high level, I grade him as a Future (60) Plus Defender at the position, a Plus Runner, not to mention the plus Arm(s), he can touch up to 90 with each from the mound… He shows fantastic barrel control from both sides of the plate with Potential Above-Average Power (50+) Oh yeah… Edwin is one of the youngest players in the entire class to top it all off. Just 17.8 years old during the 2021 July Draft Month.
Edwin Arroyo - Arecibo Baseball Academy’s Edwin Arroyo is a name that the casual prep fan might be aware of, but scouts have been keeping a keen eye on this summer. A switch-hitter, Arroyo has sneaky pop from both sides of the plate and plays some exciting middle infield defense. The arm is undeniable too. He struck out in his first plate appearance of the night, but that was really the only wart on an otherwise outstanding night. His second at-bat resulted in a double absolutely smoked up the middle into the centerfield. The speed was on full display as he stretched what generally would be a single into an impressive extra-base hit. The third at-bat was even more noteworthy, going the other way with a fastball low and away into left field for a picturesque base hit. Arroyo was one of the standouts for the event.
Edwin Arroyo, 3B - The star of the Perfect Game All American Classic came to Boston and despite not being as loud with the bat, showed the basic tool set that has scouts excited. Arroyo projects as a bat first likely third baseman, and one with the ability to hit for both average and power.
