BINGHAMTON, NY – The Binghamton Rumble Ponies beat the New Hampshire Fisher Cats 6-3 on Saturday night at Mirabito Stadium to win the six-game series. Mark Vientos got the Ponies on the board with a two-run homer in the first and Yoel Romero had the go-ahead two-run double in the fifth.
Vientos two out, two-run shot to left off Simeon Woods Richardson to give the Ponies a 2-0 lead was his team-leading 14th of the year. After the Fisher Cats took a 3-2 lead in the top of the fourth, Matt Winaker drew a one-out walk in the bottom of the frame followed by a Luis Carpio double. That led to Romero’s go-ahead two-run double down the left-field line.
The Ponies added on with two in the sixth as with second and third and nobody out, Wagner Lagrange drove home Carlos Cortes with an RBI double. Later in the frame, Winaker plated Vientos with an RBI single. Vientos finished 2-3 with two runs scored, two RBI, and a walk.
Oscar De La Cruz (1-2) picked up the win allowing three runs on six hits over five innings, with no walks and five strikeouts. Eric Orze pitched three scoreless frames of relief allowing only one walk and striking out five. Allan Winans closed out the ninth for his first save of the year. Vientos beats Richardson…sweet.
Baty to be joining Vientos. I say they rotate them between Left Field and Third Base. When he was first drafted, the writeup on Batyis he was athletic enough to go to Left Field…
