John Harper SNY.TV: Scouts on Pete Alonso's career and future as Mets slugger hits 100 home-run milestone. “Scouts I spoke to for this story were mostly in agreement that he has bounced back nicely from the 60-game pandemic season in which he felt the weight of expectations and often showed his frustration at failure, to the point where he projects as a good bet to be among the home run leaders for years to come.”

New York Mets released Darren Reed on September 9, 1993.

1997
Hall of Famer and beloved Phillies announcer Richie Ashburn, an excellent contact hitter who once fouled off 14 pitches in one at-bat, passes away of an apparent heart attack in his New York hotel room after broadcasting a Mets-Phillies game last night. 'Whitey' collected the most hits by any major leaguer during the decade of the 1950's.
2004
Lino Urdaneta's first major league appearance results in an earned run average of infinity when the Tigers rookie does not retire a batter, giving up five hits, one walk, and six earned runs. Fortunately for the right-hander, the Mets will give him the opportunity to appear in two games in 2007, in which he allows one run in one inning of work, to bring down his ERA to a much more respectable 63.00.

1969: With a 7 - 1 win, Tom Seaver hands Chicago its 6th straight loss, giving the Mets a sweep of two games. New York now trails the Cubs by one-half game.

2013 - In a rare highlight for the Nationals this season, Gio Gonzalez pitches a one-hitter and is backed by five homers as the team rolls to an easy 9 - 0 win over the Mets. The Nats start off with a bang as Denard Span and Ryan Zimmerman greet Mets starter Carlos Torres with back-to-back long balls. Pinch-hitter Zach Lutz has the Mets' only hit, a soft single that lands on the first base foul line to open the 7th.

“The Braves showing their financial muscle by signing their stars”. What, as compared to the Rays? Where is Freeman’s extension then?

Do the Mets have the stars to sign long term right now?

Good question Gus - depends on who you ask. We should find out soon regarding Conforto, Stroman, and Thor.
