I will make this simple.
We currently have two of the top middle infielders, in their prime, on this team.
We have locked up one.
We need to lock up the other.
One vote for Baez.
McNeil.
Get Correa or Seagar to play 3B. This team needs a bat that makes contact, not another 200 strikeout windmill. No to Baez.
People have alot to say about Báez but hes was arguably the best player on the team since acquired and like you said hes in his prime. Obviously a decade younger than Cano and better defensively with more power than McNeil. I would personally max out at 5/6 years on him and make the AAV too good to pass up.
Wow. Tough. Baez, like Ernest says, should be 5 or 6 years MAX if they go with him. Jose Reyes hit .337 at age 28, .189 at age 35.
Cano? Love to see him squeezed like Cespedes was. Don't want him, being nearly 2 years older than we last saw him, and not on illegal supplements.
I do agree with spending $$ on Correa or Seager instead - both make much better contact than Baez.
If Lindor wants Baez so badly, give Cohen $50 million back towards Baez's contract.
I'm with Mack team him with buddy Lindor as Cohen has already committed to him and Cano at 3rd
McNeil? Logic says he should return to hitting. It is disturbing that he has not pushed towards .300, though. I'd think of him more in the OF, but Carlos Cortes (more power, less average) could be a cheaper replacement for that 2B/OF role.
Tom on Vientos can he play LF or are we looking at another Todd Hundley?

Baez has put up an exceptional .303/.377/.538 line since joining the Mets, adding up to an impressive 4.3 rWAR/3.6 fWAR total for the year. The polarizing star will be an unrestricted free agent without a qualifying offer attached, so while he enjoys playing alongside his pal in New York, it may come down to a question of price point. For the Mets the issue is allocation of resources, as they already has Jeff McNeil and Luis Guillorme under contract, as well as Robinson Cano coming back from suspension. As well as Baez has played, the Mets may have greater needs elsewhere.”

Lindor has proven nothing and If we could find a fool (like we were with cano) we should move mountains to be rid of Lindor.
He continues to be leader of all that went wrong with this team in production leadership and everything that comes from his mouth is wrong. He as the leader of the thumbs down movement
And Baez performed better but his involvement in the thumbs down movement should eliminate him from any extension.
We are NY we should have standards and they both couldn’t be lead out the door fast enough.
I can totally understand if we done spend any money in the infield. This team needs change. This unit has failed for long enough.
If we choose to invest in the infield and my primary free agent target is Seiman.
He is a superior defender in multiple infield positions. Proven to win in Oakland and Toronto. He doesn’t have the sever swing and miss that Baez does. He is not Lindor best friend so he may not pacify him but may be the leader we need and demand more out of Lindor who is not a leader.
Seiman is my target for 2b

Don't forget the cost of acquiring Baez (still sore over losing PCA)......if we keep Baez, it lessens the sting of losing a young OF'er from our system (that is oddly devoid of OF'ers).
If Baez can be retained for a reasonable amount/term, then I would vote for keeping him around. Yes, he K's a ton, but he still provides a lot of value everywhere else, plus he plays with a ton of passion/fire that is otherwise LACKING on this team. It would also lock up the middle infield for the foreseeable future, which isn't a bad thing (good defense up the middle has been lacking under Sandy and Co.)
5 or 6 years maximum and maybe 20-25 million per year............5 for 125? Back load the deal a bit, so Cano's money isn't as onerous. By the time Robbie is exiting stage left, we should have some cost controlled youngsters knocking on the door, so Baez's contract will be manageable.
One possible downside.......I don't see Baez and Conforto returning, since they are both going to land deals in that neighborhood. So, if you keep Baez, Conforto likely walks.
What is the Mets record since Baez was acquired? While Lindor was injured? While Lindor played? Winning baseball is what I want and these two don't cut it. i am with EC, though I don't care about thumbs down. As to PCA? Miss him... maybe... if his shoulder recovers, don't compound the mistake by allocating resources to a windmill. Guillorme and Jeff are great utility guys. Build around young and affordable, aka hungry. Free agents are an expensive bet that rarely pays.
I agree losing PCA hurts but we should not compound it by signing Baez
Even if goes on to win a MVP somewhere else, he ruined his place here when he chose to take on the fans…
Beltran almost did the same when he didn’t want to take that curtain call… but Julio Franco saves him and Lindor didn’t… bye…
By signing Baez we show that the management has no pulse for what it means to be in NY and fortitude to day we run the team not the players
Second base should belong to Javier Baez next year.
If we're totally stuck with Cano, I would re-sign Baez, and play Cano at 3B, with Villar leaving,and have J.D. to pinch hit. McNeil stays in LF or as util man and moves around as needed.
The Mets are committed to Lindor for the next 10 years.
The team is in a shambles, a lot of wrong parts, and needs to be reassembled, beginning at the top (as Mack pointed out).
I contend that we accept reality and build around Lindor/Alonso.
A yes to Baez, provided that the contract is not too long or too crazy. 5/$125. I find it hard to predict. He's a flawed player, and maddening at times, and maybe not even "my kind of player," but he's close with Lindor and that means a lot. Francisco is far more fragile than we realized. The Mets have to become his team.
A lot of talk overall about Ks and baserunning here, but the power outage has really hurt the team, too. And Baez plays high-quality defense and runs the bases exceedingly well.
It would be dumb to sign Lindor and not try to make that work. He won in Cleveland. He's our guy, like it or not.
Jeff McNeil is a bad second baseman. I like him in the outfield and I like his flexibility. He and Francisco don't gell; it's not happening for him at 2B.
They need to replace Conforto -- please, a RH-hitting outfielder -- and address the pitching staff. Catcher and 3B are coming in 2023.
