The Mets Future: 1B

The Mets Future: 1B

I’m watching the Mets-Yankees game today, working on some of my minor league stuff, and thinking what a wonderful thing it is being a writer about the Mets minor league system, rather than the parent club. There’s enough bloggers out there ranting about the injuries, age problems, miscues, etc., that the Mets are going through this year, and… heck, they go through this every year, don’t they?

Anyway, all Mets fans dream of some day winning another World Series and my job is to make sure you know what’s down on the farm and when, or if, they can help the Mets achieve their goals some day.

There’s lots of good players in the Mets system, but we’re talking about potential great players that can start some day in Queens, and, like most clubs, those kind of players are few and far between.

Let’s get a feel for where the Mets sit, position wise, and what’s coming up through the system:
1B: As of today, this will probably be Carlos Delgado’s last year with the Mets, and maybe, in baseball. His body is simply breaking down from age and there is nothing they can do about that. Fernando Tatis is a backup, and Daniel Murphy is still an experiment. Ike Davis is your top prospect here, and is starting to add some pop to his game, but he’s years away, if ever. Nick Evans is going the wrong way and the rest of the players in the system are marginal at best.
Future Status: Open
