Binhamton Game Notes

LAST GAME:

Binghamton gave up a season-high tying 19 hits
as the Trenton Thunder won 12-2 Friday night at NYSEG Stadium.
Trenton scored the first 12 runs in the game as they got
to B-Mets starter Eric Niesen scoring seven runs in the first
four innings. Marcos Vechionacci hit his fifth and sixth home
runs of the season in the game. The first came in the fourth
inning on a lead-off home run to left off Niesen. His next at bat
in the fifth also resulted in a home run this time to right off
Juilo De La Cruz. He went 2-6 with four RBI and Eduardo Nunez
went 2-3 with three RBI. Binghamton got their two runs in
the ninth when Emmanuel Garcia scored on a Jose Valdez
wild pitch. Jose Coronado then scored on a Josh Thole sacrifice
fly. Niesen took his second loss going four innings, giving
up eight hits and six earned runs. Michael Dunn picked up the
win with 2.1 innings of scoreless relief with five strikeouts.
Josh Schmidt started and went 4.2 shutout frames.

STARTING PITCHING MATCHUP (GAME 1):

RHP Eric Brown will
make his fourth consecutive start for Binghamton since entering
the rotation June 4. Last time out, June 16, Brown kept his
team in the game throwing seven innings, while allowing three
runs on nine hits in a 3-2 loss at Harrisburg. For the season,
he is 4-5 with a 4.81 ERA in 58 innings. Brown worked as both
a starter and as a reliever in 2008 for Binghamton and recorded
a 5-8 record with a 5.46 ERA in 17 starts spanning 94
innings. He was the Mets’ 18th-round choice in 2005 out of
Wingate University (NC).

RHP Jason Stephens will make his second start of the season
with Trenton after being recalled from Tampa (High-A). His last
start came against Binghamton on May 17 where he went five
innings, giving up one run on one hit in a no-decision. He is 0-
0 with a 3.00 ERA in six innings this season. Last season he
split time between Charleston (Low-A), Tampa (High-A) and
Trenton (AA). With Charleston he went 2-3 with a 3.02 ERA in
eight starts and 17 total appearances and in Tampa he was 3-
5 with a 4.47 ERA. He was drafted in the sixth round of the
2003 draft by the Yankees.

STARTING PITCHING MATCHUP (GAME 2):

RHP Edgar Ramirez
will make his second start of the season for the B-Mets and
second against Trenton. Last Sunday at Trenton he made his
first start of the year and went three scoreless innings, giving
up three hits. He is 0-0 with an 8.71 ERA in 10.1 innings,
including six relief appearances. Ramirez split last season
between St. Lucie (High-A) and Savannah (Low-A). With St.
Lucie he went 1-1 with a 4.75 ERA in 14 appearances, one of
which was a start. With the Sand Gnats he was 3-1 with a
3.13 ERA in 14 relief appearances. He was drafted by the
Mets’ in the 36th round out of LSU in 2006.
