B-Mets:

t took Ike Davis all of two days to make a great impression at NYSEG Stadium. He hit the game-winning double, a two-run shot down the right-field line to cap a three-run ninth inning and give the B-Mets a 5-4 victory over Bowie. It snapped the team's season-long seven-game losing streak.Davis is now 4-for-6 with three RBIs in two games with the B-Mets."To me, he's got that killer instinct that it takes to be a major-league hitter," B-Mets manager Mako Oliveras said of Davis.

38. Jenrry Mejia / SP / NY Mets / Double-A / 10/11/89 / ETA: 2011 / High: #38 / Low: UR / This Week: New2009 Thoughts:This young man has snuck up on everybody, but don't expect the Mets to push him beyond Double-A. Lets see how the kid adjusts to his current league and the advanced hitters he's facing.Average Year Projection:Too early to tell.Prime Year Projection:Too early to tell.Notes:6/24/09 - I will admit it, I missed the boat on Mejica. Earlier this year I glanced at his High-A numbers, which were impressive on the surface but not so impressive peripherally, and then moved on to the next player that caught my eye. But, at the age of 19 I should have at least added him to the bubble. I didn't even consciously realize that he was promoted to Double-A Birmingham until a few starts in. That's when my eyes were opened. Right on cue, kindly Hardball Times reader Suchit Patel emailed me no more than an hour later looking for my thoughts on Mejica. Dear Suchit, go get Jenrry Mejica. I will admit another thing, I haven't even seen him pitch yet, but I'm hoping to catch his next start. I am being aggressive with this ranking, as I've essentially moved him ahead of Fernando Martinez as the team's No. 1 prospect, but the numbers and the age don't lie. He's riding on a lot of hype, and I usually don't just blindly buy into hype, but this time I will take the plunge.

It’s been a long time since LSU last won a World Series title or even played in one. Since the retirement of long time skipper Skip Bertman the Tigers have not won a college World Series. So they felt very emotional in their 11-4 trouncing of the Texas Longhorns. It is their sixth national title.

The White Sox first round pick, Jarod Mitchell rocked a 3-run homer in the first inning. The Longhorns whittled back and tied the game at 4-4 but a 5-run sixth put the game away for LSU. Mitchell started the rally with a leadoff walk in the inning. Mikie Mahtook got the clutch RBI double in that inning to put the Tigers ahead 5-4.

Mitchell also played for the 2007 LSU football team that won the national title.

During the season Bryce Harper hit a ball that traveled over the fence, a couple trees, another fence, a sidewalk, five lanes of traffic, another sidewalk before it kerplunked on a soft part of the desert. Mickey Mantle had some legendary hits like this. Total distance - 570 feet. He already is on record for hitting the longest homerun in Tropicana Field history (hit with a metal bat), which happens to be the home of the Tampa Bay Rays, a professional baseball team. It was measured at 502 feet, but it crashed into a wall so it couldn’t travel its maximum distance. That blast was part of six consecutive homeruns that were measured at an average of around 469 feet.

At 16 he already stands 6′3″ and weighs 205 pounds. He puts on the tools of ignorance and has an arm that has been clocked throwing a ball at 96 miles per hour. Scouts say that if Bryce was eligible for this year’s draft he would have been taken as the second pick in the draft, right after Stephen Strasburg. He is also being advised by Scott Boras, so signing a contract may be difficult since he has plenty of flexibility concerning his choices.
