SAL Announces Hall Of Fame Class of 2009

SOUTH ATLANTIC LEAGUE ANNOUNCES HALL OF FAME CLASS OF 2009

ST. PETERSBURG, FL—Eric Krupa, president of the South Atlantic League, has announced the members of the Class of 2009 for the South Atlantic League Hall of Fame. The two new honorees will be inducted into the SAL Hall of Fame during pre-game ceremonies later this season.
This year’s class includes a former executive and an active field manager that have been involved in the South Atlantic League for many years. Former Hickory General Manager David Haas and current Asheville Field Manager Joe Mikulik and will receive the honors during pre-game ceremonies in Hickory and Asheville, respectively, later this season on dates to be announced.

David Haas was involved with the South Atlantic League for 19 seasons, beginning as an intern with the Gastonia Rangers in 1989. When the club was relocated to Hickory in 1993, David moved with the club and was named the Director of Stadium Operations. David was named General Manager in 1997, and held that position through the 2007 season. His contributions and service to the league on various committees and initiatives was honored in 2007 when he was awarded the South Atlantic League Distinguished Service Award.

Joe Mikulik is the all-time winningest manager in Asheville history, having recently recorded his 700th win for Asheville. The 2009 season marks his 10th consecutive season managing the Asheville Tourists. Mikulik has managed the SAL All-Star Game on four occasions (2000, 2002, 2007, 2008) and has been named the SAL Manager of the Year three times (2001, 2007, 2008). Mikulik began his coaching career as a player/coach at Double-A Canton-Akron in 1995. Before that, he enjoyed a playing career that spanned 12 seasons, almost all of it in the Houston Astros organization.
