Hud-Val 3, Clones 2 - Post Game Thoughts

SP Angel Cuan made his stateside debut tonight. Cuan was on my prospect list all of last year, and really is an arm you have to respect. He had absolutely no support last season on the VSL Mets, was the SP1 throughout the year, posted a 1-8 record, but also posted a 3.13 ERA… the big stat was 74Ks in 72.0 IP, with only 11 BB. Cuan hails from Panama City, and I don’t mean Florida.

Cuan struggled, giving up eight hits in the first four innings, which resulted in three earned runs. His stats: 5.0 IP, 3 ER, 3K, 5.40.

Brooklyn came up against a pitcher named Alexander Colome, who was lights out early. The 20-year old signed on with the Rays as a free agent in 2007, and was 0-5, 6.80 in the Applachan League last year. Colome pitched 5.0 innings, gave up no runs, striking out four.

Nothing against the guys, but I hate seeing players like 2B Matt Gaski and SS Matt Bouchard playing rookie ball. I know they’re only 22 and 23 years old, but I would have hoped their careers would have progressed beyond this and two of the draft picks could be playing here instead.

Rookie James Schroeder started the game at 3B, but came out after being hit by a pitch. No word on the extent of the injury.

The Clones fought back in the 8th, scoring two runs, after a John Servido walk, a Bouchard double, and a run-scoring single from 1B Sam Honeck.
