Minor Thoughts - Saturday

1. There is speculation on http://www.scout.com/ that SP Jefry Mejia may be lost for the remainder of the season. The speculation does not specifically mention the cause could be an injury, but it did say that it’s hush-hush. Hush-hush usually means being shut down for the year, not for injury reasons.

2. Cyclone infielder, Matt Bouchard, is lost for the eason after having surgery today to repair his left labrum. Bouchard was hitting .408 with a slugging percentage of .592.

3. A couple of more team movements… Richard Lucas, who was first reported as being dumped, resurfaced, rehabbed in GCL and has now been sent to K-Port… replacing Tyler Vaughn who was bumped to Brooklyn to take over third base due to the Matt Bouchard injury. Also, one of Mack’s preemies, SP Yohan Almonte, was bumped from GCL to K-Port.

4. It was Savannah SP Robert Carson’s turn to take one in the chops: 1.2-IP, 6-ER, ERA soars to 2.53. No problem. Everybody has a bad day and I wouldn’t want to be the next tema to play against him.

5. Brant Rustich came in as a reliever tonight for Lucy and gave up five runs, though only one was easrned, in 0.1 IP. Brant’s future as a Met is in the pen and don’t be surprised you don’t see him sped up next year. He will play 2010 as a 25-year old and I’m sure that year will start at the AA level… let’s stay conservative and target him for the 2012 pen in Queens, though my money is still on 2011.

6. By the way, don’t expect the Mets to make some kind of announcement that they are throwing in the towel. You’ll see it in their day-to-day operation. By the time you read this, SP Tim Redding will be toast and the Mets will eat his contract. The eating of contracts may continue into the off-season. Also, you might see the Mets sign Julio Lugo, but only to relieve the pressure of finding eight healthy guys to play each night. It will be a “remainder of the year” deal, and no more.

7. Lastly, don’t expect the Mets to rush back or welcome Billy Wagner now that the towel is on the mat. Especially after the shit he said about Brian Stokes, who basically has done a good job this year. The last thing the Mets need is this turn in the locker room. I was at ST this year and two people told me that the Mets asked Wagner specifically not to attend because of his Jeff Kent-like personality.
