B-Mets Game Notes

LAST GAME:

For just the seventh time this year, the B-Mets
recovered from a deficit after seven innings to win. This time it
was at the expense of the Connecticut Defenders, who fell 6-5
last night at NYSEG Stadium, giving Binghamton its first series
win since May 14-17 versus Trenton. Down 5-4 heading into
the bottom of the eighth, the B-Mets rallied for two runs off
Joe Paterson, who was charged with his third blown save.
Jonathan Malo brought in the tying run with a sacrifice fly to
right and Ike Davis scored the go-ahead run on a Waldis Joaquin
wild pitch making it 6-5. Brad Holt got the start for the BMets
and gave up a season-high four homers over six innings
to take a no-decision. He allowed five runs on nine hits in six
innings with three strikeouts. Brett Pill was responsible for two
of those homers, solo shots, as part of his 4-5 day at the
plate. Tim Alderson gave the Defenders seven innings as the
starter allowing four runs on 10 hits. Jose De La Torre picked
up the win with two scoreless innings segueing to Connor
Robertson, who allowed the tying run to reach to open the
ninth before nailing down the save with that run standing on
third base with a strikeout of Eddy Martinez-Esteve.

STARTING PITCHING MATCHUP:

RHP Eric Brown will try to
avoid his eighth straight loss when he takes the hill tonight for
his 12th start. He was beaten by the SeaWolves in his last
start July 19 at NYSEG Stadium. Brown allowed five runs on
nine hits in six innings in the B-Mets 5-1 shortcoming. For the
year, he is 4-11 with a 5.98 ERA in 90.1 innings. As a starter
this season, he is 1-9 with a 6.68 ERA in 62 innings. Brown
worked as both a starter and as a reliever in 2008 for Binghamton
as well and recorded a 5-8 record with a 5.46 ERA in
17 starts covering 94 innings. He was the Mets’ 18th-round
choice in 2005 out of Wingate University (NC).
RHP Thad Weber will get the call for his seventh start since
joining the Erie rotation June 23. In his last start, July 19, He
shut down the B-Mets with eight, strong innings allowing just a
run on five hits with three strikeouts. He had a no-hitter going
through 6.2 innings against Binghamton. Weber is 3-2 with a
3.57 ERA in 35.1 innings with the SeaWolves. He opened the
season with Lakeland (High-A) where he dominated the Florida
State League going 4-4 with a 2.13 ERA in 12 starts spanning
67.2 innings. Weber made 11 starts with West Michigan
(Low-A) last season with a 2.56 ERA in 56.1 innings after
being drafted by the Tigers in the 16th round of the 2008
draft.

CORONADO HITTING STRIDE:

B-Mets second baseman Jose
Coronado is in the midst of a season-best nine-game hitting
streak in which he is hitting .324 (11-34). He has raised his
average from .242 July 11 to .255 entering play today.
