Prospect Update: 2010 Crop, Over The Hill Gang - Last Chance Larry's

The 2010 Crop:

Fernando Martinez – OF - AAA – Omar Minaya informed the press on July 16 that Martinez went under the knife during the all-star break, and will be lost for 6-8 weeks. Frankly, with the way the season is going, I hope they just leave him alone and send him off in a timely manner to Hawaii for a few weeks of winter ball. There sure seems to be a good chance this kid won’t be ready for CitiField next April.

Jon Niese – SP – AAA – Niese continued pitching well on July 11, against Scranton/WB… 6.0-IP, 1-ER, 5-K, ERA down to 4.12… July 17: rained out, so we’ll see him pitch on the 18th… don’t be surprised if he gets the nod soon. Last six outings: 4-ERs in 43.1-IP.

Over The Hill Gang:

Nelson Figueroa – SP – AAA – 35/yrs. old – Only pitched in the all-star game this past week.

Adam Bostick – RP – AAA – 26/yrs. old – July 12: 2.0-IP, ,4-K, 1-BB, 0-R… ERA after 11 appearances at AAA: 0.65… one earned run in 14.0 innings pitched at the AAA level this season

Emary Frederick – RP – AA – 25/yrs. old - July 13: 1.0-IP, 0-R, 2-K, 1-BB… spotless so far at AA… 4-G, 2.1-IP, 0-R, 1-H, 3-K, 1-BB, 0.00

Last Chance Larry’s

Tobi Stoner – SP – AAA – 24-yrs. old – July 16 was Stoner’s turn to go face up, and he remained within the pattern: 7.0-IP, 6-ER, 6-K, 4-BB, 1-HR, 4.98… I still feel Stoner’s future is in the Mets bullpen a la Bobby Parnell.
Brant Rustich – RP – A+ - 24/yrs. old - 1.0-IP, 0-H, 0-R, 2.53… last five outings: 3-ER in 7.2-IP

Josh Satin – 2B – A – 24/yrs. old – RISP: .317 – starting to show sings he may be coming out of his June-July slump…
